Whoa, what was this little quip about??
The Smartless podcast became an instant hit thanks largely to the vibe of old pals Jason Bateman and Will Arnett, who trade quick-witted jabs with each other and the guests… while Sean Hayes is just the sweetest. But Will’s latest little joke has Parks and Recreation fans’ jaws on the floor and eyebrows to the ceiling!
This week’s guest was Adam Scott, promoting the acclaimed Severance of course. But Parks and Rec fans will forever know him as Ben Wyatt, the will they, won’t they love interest and eventually husband of Amy Poehler‘s Leslie Knope. And they were on the show together at a pretty volatile time for Amy — she separated from and eventually filed for divorced from her husband during the show’s run. Her husband WILL ARNETT. OK, so keep that in mind…

At one point in the podcast episode, Sean asks a rather more serious question about his father, prompting Will and Jason to mock him by rapid-firing other invasively intimate questions, such as whether he was “emotionally scarred” by his parents’ divorce and what drives him “crazy” about his wife. LOLz! But then Will adds:
“Have you ever had an emotional affair with a coworker?”
An “emotional affair”? He’s just throwing out the question as a joke, but the idea he’d pluck that question out of thin air, when the man worked with his wife (as a series love interest!!)… Take a listen!

They’re all laughing and joking, but… why that question? That’s what Parks and Rec fans want to know! They were DYING on social media:

OK, so are y’all ready for this? Because this little jab is just the tip of a really uncomfortable iceberg!
Fans have been speculating and theorizing for YEARS about the possibility Adam and Amy were something more than colleagues. Part of it is obviously the whole TV couple shipping thing, wishing onscreen chemistry was real, etc. But there was also a MASSIVE rumor spread by DeuxMoi a couple years ago.
When she asked her readers about the relationship, one sent in:
“Rumor has it that Amy and her affair were going to leave their partners for each other and she went ahead but her BF chickened out. He’s still with his wife *and VERY famous“
Whoa, WHAT?!? That’s the context some of the folks listening were armed with? OMG!
We have no idea the source of this rumor and couldn’t begin to corroborate it. Besides, no one even says who the guy is — folks were just wondering about Adam because they were close at the time of her separation.
For what it’s worth, Adam is still with this wife. He and Naomi Scott (not the Smile 2 star) have been married since 2005 and have two kids together. So it would fit. But then again, the way it’s worded, any guy she hung out with who is married would fit, so… TBH, it’s NOT really worth spreading considering there are happily married people involved!
But with Will asking that question… Hoo boy, you can bet that rumor is going to get a lot more life now!
