JACKSON, Tenn. — Local officials are urging residents to take caution, and electric providers share their plans for the severe weather.
As severe weather enters West Tennessee, some areas are expected to see over 10 inches of rain. Flash flooding is expected with this amount of rainfall, especially in low-lying areas. It’s important to avoid certain roads and areas that are prone to flooding.
The following locations should be avoided if possible.
Westover Road, Roberts Station, Sleepy Hollow, Concords Cades, Parsons, Harrington, Sandridge, all main roads in Carroll County, Friendship, Emerson, Eaton and eastern parts of Hardin County.
“I’ve seen that flood once in my life. The last time it come 14 inches of rain, it flooded every road going out of Crockett County, 54 South Flooded. You couldn’t get out that way, you couldn’t get out 54 east. You couldn’t even get out of 54 north,” said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce.
Utility providers are also preparing for the storm’s impact. Gibson electric, Jackson Energy Authority, Southwest Tennessee Electric, and Chickasaw Electric have announced that they are closely monitoring the storm and have crews on standby to respond to any power outages.
In the event of power outages, please remember to avoid downed power lines and stay indoors until the storm passes. If you need to report an outage, here are several ways to contact your local electric suppliers.
“You get 10,12,14 inches of rain, you’re gonna see roads you hadn’t seen flood in a long time, that’s the dangerous part,” said Sheriff Klyce.
As you drive around Jackson, you will see pre-staged barricades and “road closed” signs in flood-prone areas as the public works teams prepares for this weather.
