Bibb County road blocked by oak tree after storms

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a large oak tree is blocking the road between Zebulon Road at Madison Subdivision and Powers Plantation.

MACON, Ga. — A tree knocked over during severe storms Thursday closed a section of Zebulon Road at Madison Subdivison and Powers Plantation, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, but the road has since reopened.

A release from the sheriff’s office said that crews are working to remove a large oak tree that had fallen and is blocking the road. They’ve asked drivers to take an alternate route.

Central Georgia dealt with some severe storms on Thursday that caused some debris to be thrown onto roads and caused some power outages in Central Georgia. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the tree fell during the storms.

The sheriff’s office did not provide a timetable for when the road will reopen. The original release was shared just after 12 p.m., but they announced the road reopened just after 1 p.m.

This is just the recent road closure in Macon after a series of planned and unplanned construction projects.

The Tucker Road bridge recently reopened after it was closed for about three days due to it being damaged on Monday night when a vehicle being towed fell off a bridge. It knocked out a power pole and caused several major disruptions.

The Second Street bridge is still closed as well after a truck slammed into it, damaging beams that needed to be repaired. Repairs on the Bass Road bridge are expected to last through August, keeping another road closed in Macon.

13WMAZ will update this story when the tree on Zebulon Road has been removed and is safe to drive on again.
