The episode starts with Dhan and Gabi searching for evidence in the basement, but they don’t find anything significant, only cigarette butts near the house from the previous episode. Meanwhile, Margaret pleads with Trent to start a search for Jamie. Trent questions if Jamie might just be hiding due to the evidence, something Margaret wasn’t aware of and doesn’t know why Gabi didn’t tell her. Trent soon gets word of where Jamie was last seen.

Margaret visits Sir to ask about Jamie. Sir insinuates that Jamie stayed away from Margaret on purpose when he grew up. He then says he’ll tell Margaret everything she wants to know if she brings Gabi to him. Margaret leaves the prison and meets Trent, but Heather yells at them for talking to her client. Trent tells her that Sir agreed to the visit, but Heather tries to say she misses him. Trent responds that she made her choice.

Montgomery Clark (Monty) arrives at M&A and asks Gabi if she remembers him. She does, and he accuses her of taking his son away from him. He claims it’s her fault Jalen is now missing and holds her at gunpoint. Zeke suggests calling the police, but Gabi tells him to turn the camera off and not to call anyone. Zeke, Dhan, and Lacey start investigating Monty, who was involved in a past case where he kidnapped his 4-year-old son, Jalen, after losing custody and ended up in prison. He was let out early for good behavior. They turn the cameras on to observe what’s happening at M&A.

Gabi turns off the security system, and Monty reveals that his brother had been keeping an eye on Jalen since Monty went to prison. The mother, Dalia, was not doing well mentally. Gabi asks to call her team, and Monty is about to agree when he notices the cameras are on. He threatens to shoot Margaret. Zeke then turns his webcam on to explain that he hasn’t called the police and that the camera is just on so they can try to help find Jalen. Monty agrees to let Zeke help, but shoots the camera anyway.

Monty explains his side of the story, saying he and Dalia had a happy relationship until Jalen was born. After that, Dalia started acting off. People suspected post-partum depression, but Dalia refused to talk to anyone about it. Lacey and Dhan visit Dalia’s parents, who admit Dalia has been missing for a long time and that they hired a PI to look for her. They learn that Dalia ran away, ghosting her family. Gabi and Margaret then speak with Norma, Dalia’s best friend, who confirms that Dalia disappeared three months ago, assuming it was because Monty was getting out of prison. Norma claims Monty was abusive, but Monty cuts off the call and calls her a liar.

Zeke frantically tries calling Trent after hearing Monty freak out. Lacey confirms that Dhan is at M&A looking for a way in. Trent texts Zeke to let him know they’ve found Jamie and are heading to M&A. At M&A, Dhan stops Trent and Jamie from going in, giving weak excuses before finally admitting that Gabi and Margaret are being held at gunpoint. Jamie starts screaming to see his mother, and inside, Margaret hears him, desperately trying to get to Jamie. Monty almost shoots her, but Gabi steps in and begs Monty to let Margaret go, as they are both parents who want to reunite with their children. Monty agrees, and Margaret is let go.

Trent and Dhan come up with their own plan to save Gabi, but everyone else disagrees with them. Jamie asks them what Gabi would want them to do, and eventually, all but Trent agree that Gabi would want them to stay away and let her handle it. Gabi continues to work the case, and they look into Marlin, finding that he’s been receiving payments. They suspect he might be tied to Dalia’s disappearance, even though Monty trusts him. Dhan asks Jamie if he wants to tag along and investigate.

Jamie confronts Dhan, admitting that everyone found out about the cigarette butts. He confirms he went to Gabi’s house but had nothing to do with the break-in. He then reveals that he went to the bus station. Dhan understands that Jamie is looking for answers and reassures him that he is sure Jamie is Gabi’s son, even without the DNA results, because of how Jamie reacted when Margaret was in danger. Trent visits Sir and demands that he tell him how to break into M&A to save Gabi. Sir demands answers and threatens to kill Trent if anything happens to Gabi.

Margaret is upset with herself for leaving Gabi in danger. She opens up to Zeke a little about her backstory with Gabi, and Zeke does the same. This conversation leads Margaret to come up with a plan for Gabi to reach out to Monty. Margaret and Zeke get onto the cameras and tell Gabi and Monty that someone is sniffing around the front doors. Monty takes the bait and leaves Gabi to check it out. Margaret advises Gabi to take her walls down and be real with Monty so that he will trust her, just like Margaret and Zeke did. Gabi takes their advice and opens up to Monty about her kidnapping. Monty gets emotional and confesses that Dalia had hurt Jalen in the past by accident, and he had always covered for her. He admits that the abuse people thought was inflicted by him were actually accidental injuries from Dalia. Eventually, Monty relinquishes his gun.

The team learns that Dalia had plans to leave her parents and go back to Monty. They revisit the therapy transcripts and realize that Jalen never said anything to the therapist—he was manipulated into agreeing with whatever the therapist said. Dalia’s only way to get Monty’s custody back was to prove the therapist lied. Trent finds his way into M&A and arrests Monty, but Gabi says she won’t give a statement. Jamie adds that Margaret won’t either.

Margaret and Dhan return and reveal that the therapist admitted Dalia’s parents paid her off to corroborate the abuse. Dalia was unstable when she confronted her, and they end up finding what appears to be a suicide note. However, Gabi doesn’t buy it. Dhan suggests that Dalia might have checked herself into a treatment center. Gabi goes to check the treatment center Monty once recommended to Dalia, and there she finds Dalia. Dalia says she hid Jalen with her friend Norma. Monty reunites with Jalen and Dalia, and Norma admits she was wrong about Monty.

Monty says he’s ready to be taken in for what he did to Gabi and Margaret, but Gabi says she’s not pressing charges. Monty insists that he needs to serve his time, and Dalia says they’ll visit him every day. Trent asks the ADA to go easy on Monty. In a surprising twist, Margaret reveals that Heather is Sir’s sister!

Margaret goes back to visit Sir. Sir asks where Gabi is and says he won’t give Margaret the answers she’s looking for. Margaret responds that she doesn’t need answers. Instead, she says that she will keep her eyes on Sir forever. Sir cryptically says, “The clouds will part eventually,” which leaves Margaret feeling uneasy as the episode ends.
