The beloved ’90s children’s animated series Princess Gwenevere & the Jewel Riders is getting a brand-new comic volume from Maverick, the young adult imprint from Mad Cave Studios, and we’ve got a first look at the magical adventure!
From Eisner winner Jordie Bellaire (Birds of Prey), Koi Carreon (Voltron), and Sarah Davidson (Super Boba Cafe), Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders: The Quest For Avalon follows Gwen and her friends Fallon and Tamara, who are trying to stop the villainous Lady Kale from destroying Avalon. The original cartoon ran for two seasons between 1995 and 1996 and has been adapted into several novels between 2001-2010 by Rachel Roberts and Allison Storm (alongside the show’s original Robert Mandell). Fans of Sailor Moon and other magical stories will want to check this story out!
When we last saw Gwen and her friends Fallon and Tamara, they had successfully defeated Lady Kale–or so they thought. With Merlin gone, strange things and wild magic outbreaks have begun occurring about the kingdom. Is Kale still among them? Gwen and her friends must dig deep to find the power within each of them to defeat a new enemy and restore balance to the magic of Avalon. But their friendship is tested in new ways as their responsibilities continue to shift and change.
