Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 Ending Explained

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes 9 & 10Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 has reached its final episodes. The last two episodes of the new MCU show help bring the entire season full circle in some very surprising ways. However, the finale also teases an exciting future not only for the titular Webslinger, but for many of his friends and foes as well.

In the previous batch of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes (6,7,8), Peter Parker faced Mac Gargan’s Scorpion who nearly killed him, shaking Spider-Man’s confidence to his very core. While Norman Osborn wanted the Wallcrawler to stop holding back and demand respect with his great power, Parker ultimately decided that he would determine what was best for Spider-Man, a decision symbolically proven with Peter finally getting his classic red and blue suit. With that in mind, here’s our recap and ending breakdown for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes 9 & 10.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Episodes 9 & 10 Recap

“Hero or Menace” & “If This Be My Destiny…”

  • At the beginning of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes 9 & 10, Norman visits Otto who’s now incarcerated for violating the Sokovia Accords.
  • Norman gloats about sending Ross and Stark after Otto, having just finalized a deal to claim all of Octavius’ tech, leading Otto to swear revenge.
  • The 110th St. gang plans to raid Otto’s tech before it can be seized.
  • Spider-Man saves Nico from being hit by a truck, wearing his brand-new red and blue Spider-Man suit.
  • Spider-Man gets caught between the 110th and the Scorpions. Gargan is now wearing a helmet and has burns from his suit.
  • Spider-Man fights Scorpion, while Lonnie watches Big Donovan flee the 110th after Gargan nearly killed him.
  • Lonnie is in the truck when some of its chemicals spill (Diox-3), granting him super strength and durable skin which he uses to help Spider-Man fight Scorpion.
  • Spider-Man stops holding back like Norman wanted and nearly kills Scorpion, only to be stopped by Lonnie from going too far.
  • Nico and Peter make up, promising no more secrets (but Nico is still hiding a secret about her amulet).
  • Norman is testing Spider-Man’s blood on various animal subjects, the implication being that he wants to create more Spider-Men.
  • At the start of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 10, Peter barely makes it to his diorama presentation as he was stopping some carjackers.
  • Norman meets with Oscorp’s interns to confirm that all of their projects have been connected to Project Monolith, creating a gateway to space for faster-than-light travel and instant relocation.
  • Norman believes the Avengers aren’t enough for humanity to be the dominant species, to be as revered as those they once saw as gods, hence the gateway.
  • Doctor Strange arrives to stop Norman and his dangerous project, while also confirming to Peter that he was never at Midtown High.
  • Norman turns the gateway on anyway, only for the same symbiote monster from the show’s premiere to emerge, and a test subject spider escapes during the resulting fight with Spider-Man and Strange.
  • Doctor Strange use of the Time Stone charges the portal, and he goes back too far to the day Peter Parker was bitten by the spider which is revealed to have been from the future possessing Spider-Man’s blood, thus creating a major time paradox regarding how Spider-Man got his powers in the first place.
  • Although Spider-Man and Strange destroy the gateway, a bit of symbiote sneaks through to later be found by Norman.
  • In the aftermath, Oscorp is under fire and Peter is not sure if he can trust Norman or if he should keep working with him.
  • Nico suggests Harry should start a company for Peter and his friends. Harry agrees and forms the Worldwide Engineering Brigade.
  • Spider-Man and Doctor Strange meet, confirming the major use of time travel and how lives were altered, while still agreeing they’re on the paths they’re meant to be, as Uatu the Watcher observes Strange telling Spider-Man he’s ready to be a hero.
  • Amadeus Cho seemingly rejects Harry’s WEB invite.
  • Jean is revealed to be Finesse, having been undercover at Oscorp working with Daredevil.
  • Lonnie ditches his Letterman jacket, and his hands are starting to go gray, an ongoing side effect of the chemicals that gave him his powers.
  • Nico is shown using her magic amulet to speak with her Mom.
  • Otto’s future as Doc Ock is teased, despite still being behind bars.
  • Aunt May visits Peter’s father Richard in prison, while Spider-Man says that he’ll figure out whatever comes his way.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Major Time Loop Explained

Which Came First, The Spider or Spider-Man?

With this Spider-Man existing in an alternate MCU timeline, it looks as though Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is taking full advantage of that extra freedom when it comes to Peter Parker’s origins and where his powers came from. In the premiere episode, the spider that bit Spider-Man came from a portal during Doctor Strange’s battle with an alien symbiote monster that saw Midtown High receiving quite a bit of damage. This battle resulted in a new path for Peter Parker where he had new friends, a new school, and even a new mentor with Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark.

However, it’s now been revealed that Strange, the symbiote, and the spider all came from the future thanks to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 10. Likewise, the spider in question had been tested on using Spider-Man’s own blood thanks to Norman Osborn’s secret experiments to try and replicate the Websligner’s powers in other specimens. As such, the end result is a mind-bending paradox where the spider that gave Spider-Man his powers in this alt-MCU timeline was only special because of Spider-Man’s blood from the future (so which came first?)

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 Final Big Twist Explained

Richard Parker Is Alive

Richard Parker in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

The other major shock is that Peter Parker’s father Richard is still alive, albeit incarcerated in prison. Additionally, it’s unknown if Peter knows about his father or if Aunt May has been keeping his existence a secret. Either way, this will likely prove to be a pretty big plot point in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 and beyond.

In Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Richard Parker worked for Oscorp, and his death was faked. While he would have revealed his existence to his son at the end of Amazing Spider-Man 2, this sequence was ultimately cut but was likely going to play a big role in the canceled Amazing Spider-Man 3 had Sony not pivoted to working with Marvel Studios and bribing a new Webslinger played by Tom Holand into the MCU. That being said, the Richard Parker introduced in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s finale will likely have different origins.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s Finale Has Several Big Teases For The Future

What’s Next For Spider-Man’s Friends and Foes?

Spider-Man has certainly become a full-fledged hero by the end of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. To that end, it’s pretty cool to see Uatu the Watcher secretly observing Peter Parker, a visual confirmation that Spider-Man has reached a major milestone by the season’s end, becoming the superhero he’s meant to be going forward. Likewise, Harry Osborn forming the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, first seen at Disneyland’s Avengers Campus, is also quite exciting, providing Peter with a new company to work with beyond Oscorp in future seasons.

It’s also cool to see Jean confirmed to be Finesse with the reveals that she was working undercover for Daredevil, as well as Nico’s magical secrets being teased. Likewise, it looks as though Lonnie’s future as the comics’ Tombstone is all but certain following his exposure to Diox-3, and Norman finding a piece of symbiote goo while Otto Octavius plans his revenge as Doc Ock should be exciting villain arcs. As such, it’s very clear that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 is only just the beginning.
