Why these Macon businesses chose to remain open after the snow storm in Georgia

Even though most businesses are remaining closed due to weather, some businesses say being open brought them more customers

MACON, Ga. — After snow covered much of Central Georgia, many businesses stayed closed due to weather concerns. But for the La Parrilla Mexican restaurant, and the Longleaf Distillery, they chose to remain open and serve the community in Macon.

La Parilla manager Adriana Rico says even though roads were icy, her team wanted to make sure their customers received a warm welcome.

“We always receive their support, and I think we can return a few days like today so we can show how appreciative we are,” Rico said.

And for Longleaf Distillery, Sean McMahon says this is the most business they’ve seen in weeks.

“We didn’t expect too many people to come out, but honestly even with the snow, we’ve had more people today already … in the last 45-minutes then we’ve had most Wednesdays in the last few weeks,” McMahon said.

He says they were considering closing, but wanted to stay open for the community.

“As a business, when everywhere else closes, it is kind of an opportunity to jump on that and stay open if you can manage it,” McMahon said.

Rico says Tuesday night they were empty, a slow night.

But on Wednesday morning when they opened, doors were filled with new faces and people ready to eat.

“We don’t expect that kind of people around here. A lot of people risked the cold to see if we are open or not and they are so happy that we are open today, “Rico said.

Both businesses told 13WMAZ they will remain open and hope they continue to get more customers.
