Rozlyn Roberts, ‘romanticize your life’ | Local News

Salida Regional Library, 405 E St., is displaying works by local artist Rozlyn Roberts in June.

Originally from Utah, Roberts moved to Salida in 2017 after graduating from college in Texas, where she studied film and anthropology. She said she “hated Texas.”

Moving to Salida, Roberts realized she was surrounded by “cool people and cool landscapes” that she could base her stylistic work on.

“I enjoy realism but I like to make it look funky,” she said.

She said she’s inspired by artists Alphonse Mucha and Kay Nielsen, “who excel at balancing realism and stylization.”

Her work is primarily ink and wood burning, and she said cats make a regular appearance.

“I hope that (my art) pleases aesthetically, but by making art stylistically rather than realism I hope (viewers) will see the world a little differently. It’s OK to romanticize your life a little bit,” Roberts said.
