Kathy Hilton revealed how she really feels about Mauricio Umansky amid his separation from Kyle Richards.
As Kyle, 56, explained her decision to remove “wife” from her Instagram bio and the rest of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast reacted to the social media move, Kathy, 65, admitted to reaching out to Mauricio on his and Kyle’s anniversary as she noted that Kyle was showing her “cards” when she decided to change her profile.
“I still care about him. He is my nieces’ father, and he’s been wonderful with [Farrah Aldjufrie]. He and Kyle were a great couple, and we used to have so much fun, and it’s sad,” Kathy shared on the March 4 episode of the RHOBH: After Show. “I’ve called to check on him. On their anniversary, I called him … [And] he goes, ‘Is everything okay?’ And I said, ‘I was just calling to see how you are doing.’ I felt bad for him, too. I could see in his face that he was sad and confused. I felt this was just as tough on him … I just wanted him to know no matter what, I care, and we’re here.”
Then, when asked if Kyle and Muaricio’s separation had a positive impact on her relationship with Kyle, Kathy revealed that was a “good point.”
“She knows that I’m there for her, and she needs me and I need her. But look, I’d rather her have her marriage, and that relationship is more important than anything, but it has given us some time together,” she clarified. “We were on the phone three times today, last night, the night before, we were on the phone crying laughing so hard, and I like that with her, and I like it for me.”
Reflecting on her sister’s reaction to her separation, Kyle confirmed Kathy was “very supportive of me,” but she was also emotional.
“[She’s] been oddly emotional about it. She’s broken down crying to me about my separation many times. She struggles to talk about it, and I think, ‘This is so interesting,’” Kyle said. “Sometimes she’s so emotional, I’m like, I can’t talk about it with her. She wants to see me happy and move on, of course. But she’s also a little bit heartbroken that it came to this.”
During another segment of the RHOBH: After Show, Kathy reacted to Kyle’s decision to remove “wife” from her bio, saying that she wouldn’t have done such a thing.
“Personally, [I] would not have taken ‘wife’ off because that would show my cards, and I would not want him to know that I’m really thinking about … That’s why I don’t unfollow people if you have a disagreement. Because why give him that attention?” she wondered.
Meanwhile, Kyle confirmed her social media edit was a “big” move.
“When you’ve been a wife for so many years, that was like my whole identity, really, like, I’m a wife and a mom, and even though Mau and I were not together anymore, I just had a hard time deleting that from my bio. I know that sounds like a silly thing. [But] I think after seeing those photos, I was like, ‘I need to get the ball moving here,’” she reasoned.
That said, Kyle denied the “wife” removal was retaliatory.
“Mau would never have noticed if I had taken off ‘wife’ or ‘Umansky’ unless it was written about in the tabloids, so I knew that in me doing that, people would talk about it because everything is being looked at through a magnifying glass. So I thought, ‘Well, this is not just a little step. I know that people are going to talk about it, so it’s actually a bigger step,’” she noted. “Because it’s also letting people know I’m also moving on.”
Looking back at the reveal of Kyle’s edited bio, Dorit Kemsley, 48, admitted to thinking her co-star made the move in response to Mauricio stepping out with another woman.
“My first thought was, ‘Kyle removed wife after the pictures surfaced,’” she shared as Bozoma “Boz” Saint John, 48, pointed out that Kyle “was embarrassed.”
“Yeah,” Dorit agreed. “And it probably felt like, you know, this is appropriate.”
After discussing Kyle’s removal of “wife” from her bio, Dorit began wondering if she had “wife” in her own.
“I’m curious,” she admitted, grabbing her phone. “Did it ever [say ‘wife’]? I don’t know.”
She then checked if her estranged husband, Paul “PK” Kemsley, 57, had “husband” in his.
“It just says PK. That’s literally it,” she revealed.
“Now, that is a lesson within itself. That man is about himself,” Boz replied.
In their own segment, Jennifer Tilly, 66, admitted to thinking Kyle was “still clinging” to hope that she and Mauricio would ultimately “work it out” as Garcelle Beauvais, 58, suspected she was drawing a “line in the sand” by removing “wife” from her bio.
“[But] listen, seeing those pictures with Mau, I would’ve absolutely, absolutely taken off my Instagram, and I would’ve changed the locks,” she noted.
As for Sutton Stracke, 53, she revealed the advice she gave Kyle amid the drama.
“I said, ‘Go talk to every mean lawyer in Beverly Hills so he can’t hire them because once you talk to them, they can’t hire them,’” she shared.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
