Reba McEntire will be joined by one of her former Reba co-stars on her new NBC sitcom. Initially premiering in 2001, Reba, which ran for 6 seasons, followed a middle-aged woman in the city of Houston, Texas, who has her life disrupted after she discovers her husband’s affair. The eponymous show was led by McEntire, and she was joined by other talented names like Steve Howey, Christopher Rich, Scarlett Pomer, and Melissa Peterman, who played Barbara Jean, the woman with whom Reba’s husband had an affair.

Now, according to Deadline, about 17 years after the conclusion of Reba, Peterman, who is currently starring in Young Sheldon season 7, is joining McEntire on her new show, which is set to debut on NBC. The forthcoming sitcom, whose title is yet to be revealed, is also being produced by Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis, all of whom were also involved in Reba’s production during its run.

The new sitcom will follow McEntire’s character, Bobbie, as she inherits her father’s restaurant and discovers she has a half-sister (

Blue Beetle
star Belissa Escobedo
). Peterman will play the restaurant’s bartender, who is described as
“needy”
and
“dramatic.”

Is A Reba Revival Currently Possible?

Following Reba’s sudden cancelation by The CW in 2007, there was interest in a renewal or a possible revival. However, for many years, there was little to no news about any kind of continuation. This was up until recently, when McEntire hinted at a revival, and other members of the Reba cast also began to express their desire to once again reprise their roles.

In a recent interview, Howey, who played Van Montgomery on Reba, revealed that even though he’s not sure about the current status of a potential Reba revival, he’s eager to once again revisit the project. Additionally, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who played Reba’s oldest child, invited the possibility of a reboot a couple of years ago in a podcast interview.

While it looks like some key members of the Reba cast have spoken positively about a possible reboot, McEntire has stated that it might be difficult for a number of reasons. The actor and singer cited the current uncertain TV and streaming landscape, as well as the cast’s busy schedules, as some of the reasons why a revival is difficult. While the modern world of TV is rapidly changing and unpredictable, it would be interesting to see how much these factors continue to affect the show’s possible revival in the coming months.
