Summary

  • Despite the risks of a new cast and skipping several storylines, Reacher season 2 has the potential to be better than its well-received predecessor if done right.

Alan Richtson offers fans questionable advice on how to watch Reacher season 2 when it premieres next month. The marketing campaign for the much-anticipated Amazon Prime Video series based on Lee Child’s popular books kicked off just as the SAG-AFTRA strike was ending. This allows Ritchson and the rest of the cast the ability to properly promote the show, which the actor fully takes advantage of via his official social media page.

On the heels of the release of the first Reacher season 2 trailer, Ritchson suggests how fans will be able to binge-watch the first three episodes of the series that are dropping on December 15. Read his full advice in the caption below:

It goes without saying that Ritchson is obviously joking with his caption. That said, it’s a creative way to get people to remember the release plan for Reacher season 2.

Will Reacher Season 2 Be Better Than Season 1?

Reacher is poised to take an anthology approach to its storytelling, which means that each season will tackle a fresh case based on a different novel. Season 1 adapted Child’s debut installment from the series, Killing Floor, where Jack found himself in the sleepy town of Margrave and got roped into its business. Instead of doing a chronological adaptation of the novels, however, it skips several storylines, with Reacher season 2 tackling book 11 — Bad Luck and Trouble. This means that the show will have a mostly new cast when it returns, including a fresh love interest for Jack.

Given this, there are massive risks to Reacher season 2, especially since season 1 was so well-received primarily because of the ensemble that surrounded Ritchson. The absence of Margrave PD’s Roscoe Conklin (Willa Fitzgerald) and Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodman) will definitely be felt, but based on the trailer, it seems like Amazon Prime Video assembles a new cast the will be able to complement Jack and his quirks. Frances Neagley’s (Maria Sten) return will also help in terms of establishing continuity despite the project skipping 9 of Child’s books.

Narrative-wise, Reacher season 2 will see its titular character investigate the mysterious deaths of his former military co-workers while also keeping himself and other surviving members of the outfit alive. This means that from the get-go, things will be personal to him, which motivates him to be more intense. It also allows the show to delve deeper into his history. In any case, Bad Luck and Trouble is one of the best books from Child’s novels. If Amazon Prime Video does it right, Reacher season 2 can be better than its predecessor.
