Netflix’s 2025 TV, Movie and True Crime Releases: Wednesday, More

Netflix is making 2025 their biggest year yet with major TV, movie and true crime releases in the works.

On the small screen, the streaming service has a mix of returning and new TV shows on their upcoming slate. Stranger Things is the most anticipated release, with the hit series returning for its fifth and final season. Creators Ross and Matt Duffer have hinted that the Stranger Things universe will expand with multiple spinoffs after the OG story ends.

Wednesday is another supernatural series that is gearing up for its comeback. Season 2, which will be released sometime in 2025, is introducing newcomers such as Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor. Joining the cast as guest stars are Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamo.

As for movies, Netflix is committed to the Knives Out franchise with Wake Up Dead Man set for a future release. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc alongside a cast full of familiar faces. Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein is also coming soon, with Jacob Elordi bringing the horrific creature to life.

‘Apple Cider Vinegar’

This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.

‘American Murder: Gabby Petito’

Synopsis: In August 2021, 22-year-old Gabby Petito was killed by her fiance, Brian Laundrie, while the young couple was on a four month road trip across the United States documenting their “van life” journey on social media. Two months later, Laundrie was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his parents were accused of helping to cover up the murder. While taking viewers on a tick-tock journey through Gabby and Brian’s final days together, the series will unveil the tragic reality behind their Insta-perfect life and reveal painful moments where their story might have taken a different turn.

‘Zero Day’

‘Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer’

Synopsis: Young women who worked in the sex industry were disappearing from New York City and Long Island, and no one was looking for them. Then in 2010, female remains were found in the Gilgo Beach area of Long Island, leading to a string of additional discoveries, all of which seemed to be connected. The case of the Long Island Serial Killer remained unsolved for 13 years — until July 2023 when the police arrested a suspect.

‘Death of Lightning’
