Library Happenings: Exercise your mind and body in February – Superior Telegram

Love is in the air at Superior Public Library. Join us 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 for the library’s 15th annual Love Your Local Artist fundraiser, a celebration of art, libraries and community.

More than 40 local artists will have their work available for purchase at this free event that includes refreshments, wine and live music. Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win locally-made art with all proceeds supporting the library. Enjoy a festive, welcoming atmosphere while supporting local artists and your local library.

Get help with technology at the library. Digital navigator Lisa Westberg is available at our Superior, Solon Springs and Lake Nebagamon branches on Mondays and can help you increase your digital literacy and improve your life. She even has laptops available for checkout.

Stop by Superior Public Library on 1-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 and 10-11 a.m. Feb. 24; and the Imogene McGrath Memorial Library in Lake Nebagamon 10-11 a.m. Feb. 10 or the Joan Salmen Memorial Library in Solon Springs on 1-2 p.m. Feb. 24.

Storytime is great for growing brains. Bring your little one to the library every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs, crafts and fun. Storytime runs through the end of April.

Kids love crafts. On Feb. 10 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., we’ll make Valentine crafts at our Solon Springs branch. Find us on the lower level of Village Hall.

It’s Oscar season. Come to the library for a free showing of the movie “Conclave,” nominated for eight Academy Awards (including “Best Picture”) on Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. This movie is rated PG. On Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. we’ll show “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” an anime fantasy film that is set 200 years before the events of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit.” This movie is rated PG-13.

Superior public school students have the day off Feb. 13. Bring them to the library at 3 p.m. for book bingo. Play a fun game and win prizes. No registration required.

Reading and reptiles are a great combination. Sign up your young reader for Read to a Reptile on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. and they can practice reading aloud to a friendly cold-blooded creature accompanied by Sarah Glesner of Sacred Serpents. Sign up for a slot by emailing

When it’s too cold to go outside, come to the library and move your body at our free yoga classes. On Feb. 15 at 10:30 a.m. we’ll hold Morning Yoga and on Feb. 22 at 10:30 a.m. join us for Chair Yoga, both taught by Jen Rosnau. There is no registration required for these classes for ages 12 and up.

Join us Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. for a free restorative Yin Yoga for Bookworms class and learn a variety of poses that can be done while holding a book or e-reader. Yin Yoga is a style of yoga where poses are held anywhere from three to five minutes, deepening the stretch while improving your circulation and flexibility.

This unique class is taught by Emily Barsness, a certified yoga instructor with special training in yin yoga. This class is open to ages 12 and up. Registration is required and space is limited. Please email

mehlel@superiorlibrary.org

or call 715-394-8871 to reserve your spot. Please bring a yoga mat and either a bolster or pillow to the class, and make sure to bring a book to read — or arrive early and check one out from the library.
