There are few things in superhero comics less lovable than Jeff The Landshark, a doggie-shark-hybrid pet best boy, created by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Daniele di Nicuolo. Thanks to popular demand, Marvel Comics has announced that a new first-ever physical comic of JEFF THE LAND SHARK is set to debut this June, written by its creator Kelly Thompson with art by Tokitokoro.
Grown in popularity within the past few years, Jeff is a hit as a character in Marvel Rivals and a must-read in the Eisner Award-winning vertical Marvel Infinity comic series It’s Jeff!, read well over 1,000,000 times. Originally a pet Landshark joke meant for Gwenpool, the shark has now been adopted by other Marvel staples such as Deadpool and Kate Bishop.
“Seeing Jeff rocket to stardom has been wild, and also exactly what he deserves,” Thompson said. “I’m obviously as biased as you can get, but what’s not to love about an adorable land shark that wants to be friends with and/or eat everything he sees?”
“I’m thrilled that the slow burn success of Jeff in comics and the wildfire success of Jeff in Marvel Rivals can work together to bring us the opportunity for not only more Jeff stories, but more complex Jeff stories,” Thompson continued. “The It’s Jeff series works almost like perfectly executed jokes, and I couldn’t love it more; but it’s exciting to take on the challenge of the complicated narrative that you can get from a mini-series.”
