I’m All For A Good Grey’s Anatomy’s Romance, But 1 Character’s Love Story Is Ruining Their Journey

Warning! SPOILERS about Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 12 ahead.

Grey’s Anatomy

has been as synonymous with romance as with drama ever since its first episode, but one love story in Grey’s Anatomy season 21 is very close to ruining one character’s development. In its 20-year run, the medical drama had many of its protagonists start and end romantic relationships with one another, with their stories sometimes ending hilariously and others tragically, easily transforming some pairings into Grey’s Anatomy’s best couples. Indeed, while some lasted longer and their longevity made those romances iconic, others became fan favorites because of their potential remaining unexplored, due to tragedies cutting their romances short.

Grey’s Anatomy’s tendency to originate whirlwind romances among its characters didn’t decrease with time, involving all of the new interns at least once since their introduction in Grey’s Anatomy season 19. From Lucas and Simone’s electric connection finally turned into a stable relationship, to Grey’s Anatomy season 21’s best romance inevitably interrupted by Mika Yasuda’s sudden departure from Grey Sloan, all interns were romantically linked to another intern at one point in time. This let them be included in Grey’s Anatomy’s brand of drama and romance. However, one romance between an intern and an outsider is damaging the intern’s story.

Blue & Molly’s Relationship Is Getting In The Way Of His Education On Grey’s Anatomy (And That’s Bad)

Blue Is Late For Rounds & Only Focuses On Molly’s Surgery

Ever since Grey’s Anatomy season 19 introduced Simone, Blue, Mika, Lucas and Jules, Blue seemed the most committed intern, letting no personal relationship jeopardize his education. Driven by the medical debt following his mother’s illness and death negatively affecting his studies, Blue rarely opened up with his peers, instead focusing on becoming a better surgeon. While he eventually partially connected with all the interns in his own way, Blue had never put his residency second, but this changed the moment Molly re-entered his life in Grey’s Anatomy season 21’s premiere.

Blue’s Grey’s Anatomy Story Continues 1 Controversial Meredith Storyline

Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 9 featured a storyline with Blue and a patient that was reminiscent of an earlier controversial Meredith storyline.

Molly wanting to learn about her past even if Blue kept things professional in Grey’s Anatomy season 20’s finale forced him to relive a painful part of his life he had kept hidden. However, ever since Molly and Blue rekindled their romance, Blue embraced a romantic side of him never seen before in Grey’s Anatomy, trying to help Molly regain her memories organically, opposing a surgical intervention. Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 12 showed how Blue’s preoccupation with Molly kept him unfocused on his job, arriving late and not thinking about the surgery ahead after Simone asked him to assist.

Why Blue & Molly’s Relationship Is Wrong, As Romantic As Their Reunion Is

Molly surprisingly appearing at Grey Sloan’s ER greatly affected Blue, to the point he shared with Lucas how Molly was his ex-fiancée despite never wanting to talk about his personal life. Their past including their relationship saving Blue after his mother’s death, his cheating and Molly reacting to the news by going for a drive during which an accident made her lose her memories was heartbreaking, making their getting back together in Grey’s Anatomy season 21 extremely romantic if it worked. However, that isn’t what Blue and Molly both want, and it’s evident in their behaviors.

Blue seemed madly in love with her since they got back together, but he doesn’t really know who Molly is, only who she was when they were together.

While Molly was noticeably drawn to Blue, she was because he remembered their relationship. Ever since she learned Blue knew her well, Molly was determined to unlock her memories. Still, she had enough difficulties ending things with Dave, and it was proven by her welcoming him to Blue’s place. At the same time, Blue seemed madly in love with her since they got back together, but he doesn’t really know who Molly is, only who she was when they were together, ensuring their relationship won’t end well in Grey’s Anatomy season 21.
