If Solo Leveling Wants to Go Down in History, It Needs to Adapt a Missing Scene From the Manhwa

Solo Leveling‘s second season took the anime world by storm and stole the spotlight of the winter 2025 season. Following an incredibly impressive debut in 2024, the sophomore season launched the series to new heights, overtaking One Piece as Crunchyroll’s top-rated show and breaking Chainsaw Man‘s record for most-watched single episode on the platform. Now that Season Two has officially come to an end, fans have begun speculating about where the series will go next.

Following the climactic Jeju Island arc, Solo Leveling begins to get into the meat of its world and narrative, and further entries will start to unravel many of the mysteries of Sung Jinwoo’s powers. The upcoming Japan Crisis and International Guild Conference arcs introduce a few of the series’ major S-Rank Hunters, expanding Solo Leveling‘s lore and universe while setting up the final conflict. However, before it gets there, the series would be smart to cover a fight the manhwa missed.

The Anime Can Further Expand on the Series

As the series progresses, a major battle that took place prior to the events of Solo Leveling is referenced on numerous occasions. During the International Guild Conference arc, Jinwoo is taken to see the corpse of a dragon called Kamish, who was said to have appeared from the first ever S-Rank gate, and laid waste to the west coast of the United States. Jinwoo was able to successfully extract his shadow after two attempts, but due to how long Kamish had been dead, his body crumbled and prevented him from serving the new Shadow Monarch.

Before he vanishes, however, the shadow warns Jinwoo to be wary of beings called Rulers, dropping one of the first hints at Solo Leveling‘s true end game. The dragon comes up again later, when Hunter Thomas Andre gains a large role in the series. Andre was one of the five S-Rank hunters to have defeated Kamish in the battle years prior, and eventually gifts Jinwoo a pair of daggers made from its tooth. Despite the weight the fight holds, it is never shown to readers of the manhwa, and instead is left to the imagination.

Now that the Solo Leveling anime is set to cover this specific section upon its return, it has a chance to further build upon its lore by including the missing Kamish Raid. Not only would it make for exciting, high-stakes action, but the fight would also allow viewers to become familiar with Hunters like Thomas Andre before they appear in the series. While Solo Leveling has been packed with action up to this point, there has yet to be an all-out war featuring several high-ranking Hunters, and the anime has the chance to include one.

Solo Leveling Can Improve Upon Its Source Material

The Anime Can Make Positive Changes to the Manhwa Version of the Series

It’s typically frowned upon when an anime strays from its source material, but there are times when a series can successfully build upon it while remaining faithful. A-1 Pictures’ adaptation of Solo Leveling has the chance to do just that, not by adding their own original content, but by imagining something that already exists within the narrative. Season Two reaches beyond the halfway point of the manhwa, and if the studio is looking to spread the remaining story across two more seasons, adapting the Kamish Raid could allow them to with ease.

The anime has already made some minor changes to the source material that have helped to improve the series, like the subtle change that introduces Cha-Hae-In just a bit earlier than she was in the manhwa. Small alterations can allow the audience to bond with certain characters before they become major pieces, and improve the overall viewing experience.

Solo Leveling has been incredibly impressive throughout its first two seasons, and though there is currently no information regarding its continuation, the series’ immense popularity all but confirms it will return. Whenever it does, the anime will begin to dive into the inner workings of Solo Leveling‘s universe, and has the chance to expand on the narrative by adapting the Kamish Raid. While fans await the anime’s return, they can get a head start by checking out the completed original manhwa.
