The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office seized around 2,000 grams of drugs, nearly 5,000 grams of tabacco and multiple phones, cigars, chargers and more.
HANCOCK COUNTY, Ga. — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office arrested several people in connection to a plan to smuggle banned items into the Hancock State Prison, according to a release.
In two arrests on Thursday, they took seized 2,000 grams of various drugs, including over 1,300 grams of marijuana, 200 grams of MDMA, also commonly known as ecstasy or molly, over 100 grams of meth and over 400 grams of adderall.
The release said they also seized nearly 5,000 grams of tobacco, several cigars, lighters, phones, chargers, vapes and articles of clothing. They also confiscated a stolen gun with two magazines and 31 bullets.
It all started at around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday when the state prison informed the sheriff’s office about contraband being thrown over the fence and several possible suspects being in the woods.
After several hours, the release said two suspects were found in the woods near the prison after a K-9 unit led a search.
According to the release, Kamarion Walker and Jakwon Cooks were arrested. Their charges were listed as pending by the Department of Corrections (DOC).
The release said that after both were arrested, one of their phones started ringing. The caller, a juvenile, asked to pick them up at the Rocky Food Market in downtown Sparta.
The sheriff’s office said they met up with the caller and detained and arrested him after an investigation. Charges are also pending from the DOC.
The release said deputies investigated another area of the prison and pulled over a 2021 Toyota Sedan that failed to dim their lights to oncoming traffic.
A deputy, according to the release, smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle and conducted a search. They found more illegal drugs and contraband, alongside a stolen firearm, the press release said.

The driver, Reginald Johnson, was taken into custody.
These are the most recent arrests by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in relation to people trying to sneak contraband into the Hancock State Prison.
Kayla Cruz and Derrick Lumpkin were arrested in late March for sneaking in multiple bags of marijuana, cigars, cigarettes, cell phones, charges and various tools likely intended for inmates.
