Forget Earth! One Piece Just Revealed the Name of Its Own Planet

The world of One Piece is full of enigmas and questions that have kept more than one fan awake at night for years. The incredible series created by Eiichiro Oda is by far one of the most extensive and complex in history, having amassed more than 1000 chapters throughout its life.

Due to this and the author’s predilection to keep important details hidden until the appropriate time to reveal them, it is no surprise that many big mysteries have been introduced. Nonetheless, from time to time, the series reveals new details to the shock of fans, as was the case for the recently released SBS volume #111, which revealed the official name of the series’ planet.

Oda Revealed the Name of His Manga’s Planet

SBS are special column segments included in the One Piece manga volumes where Oda takes the time to reply to fans’ questions. While this section is best known for containing jokes, it has also been known for including never-before-seen information. Volume #111 was no different, with Oda using this opportunity to address the mystery of his world’s name. When a fan asked if the bridge seen by the Roger pirates in chapter #967 was Tequila Wolf, the slave facility Robin is sent to during the series’ time skip, the creator explained that this was not the case.

Past vs Future: One Piece Sets Up Its Final World War With an Ominous History Lesson

One Piece chapter #1138 gave a major rundown of the history of its world, and it perfectly sets the stage for how massive the final battle will be.

However, most importantly of all, he also commented that the planet where the story takes place is indeed different from Earth, as it is called Bluestar. While this revelation might not seem as important at first, as the name of the world does not affect the overarching story of the series, it does help explain its particularities. For example, since Bluestar is not Earth, there is no reason for fans to believe that its attributes are the same. A difference in gravity, shape, or even size could be the reason why the sea of the series behaves differently.

Enel’s Journey Revealed the Name

The cover of chapter 472, which revealed the name of One Piece's planet.

After the release of SBS volume #111, many fans noticed that this was not the first time the name of the series planet was revealed. Back in 2007, chapter #472 was released for fans all over the world to read. Just like in almost all other chapters, its cover contained a small fragment of a side story, with this entry focusing on Enel’s trip to the moon. One of the murals left by the ancient civilization who lived on the astral body explained that their ancestors had to escape to the Bluestar.

At the time of release, many fans believed that this was just the moon citizens’ way of referring to the planet they saw in their sky. With the revelation found in volume #111 of the SBS, it is now official that Bluestar is indeed the name of the world where the series takes place. Oda has once again hidden a major detail about its story in plain sight, without fans even realizing it. Another example of this trend was seen in One Piece chapter #1138, which made the Skypiea arc more important than fans could have ever imagined.
