The whole cast of Friends has come together to mourn the loss of their real-life friend and co-star Matthew Perry, who passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 54. The actors attended the funeral together and made a public post on behalf of the group, and some of them have spoken out individually to say their goodbyes and share fond memories.
Courteney Cox, who played the part of Monica on the show, Perry’s character Chandler’s friend turned girlfriend and eventual wife, wrote a moving tribute to Perry on her Instagram this week, stating:
I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.
When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.
To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.
In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say.
He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️
The video she shared shows what fans saw when we watched the episode, beginning with Ross running in to Chandler’s hotel room to exclaim that he’s getting married. After Ross leaves, Monica appears from under the covers next to Chandler, and she says, “Do you think he knew I was here?” After a long bout of shouts and applause from the audience, this is where the scene usually ends. But in this extended cut scene, Monica then adds another funny line that didn’t make it into the show, that she now credits Perry with telling her to say just before the scene began.
