You won’t find Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds at fashion’s biggest night amid their lawsuit with Justin Baldoni!
A source close to the couple revealed to TMZ on Friday that they are not attending the Met Gala in New York City this year on May 5. And it’s not because Anna Wintour didn’t invite them to the annual event due to their ongoing legal drama with Blake’s It Ends With Us co-star/director! No, she and Ryan apparently chose not to attend way before the drama with Justin unfolded! Hmm…
While it may have been their choice, it is still another massive blow for Blake and Ryan! We usually can count on the pair being at the gala more often than not! As you may know, the Gossip Girl alum was once a fan-favorite on the red carpet at the Met Gala, serving several looks in the past that would have everyone talking! Remember this one from the Heavenly Bodies theme in 2018?
Or this ensemble from when she was a co-chair in 2022 for the Gilded Glamour-themed ball?
Like her or not, there’s no doubt Blake knows how to serve a look sometimes! It is worth noting she and Ryan don’t always show up. In fact, they skipped last year’s gala! As a source noted to Us Weekly:
“She’s not a Kardashian that goes every year.”
However, now more than ever, they need every chance to try and score some good press during the lawsuit battle because the public is NOT on their side at the moment! So much so that they are boycotting her upcoming film Another Simple Favor! Yikes! They’ve taken so many hits to their reputation this year, so you would think they’d appear at the Met Gala to maybe attempt to gain a little favor! The pair may regret the decision to skip the event, but it may have been the right one in the long run as well.
You see, the two attended Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special last month, where Ryan made a cameo to poke fun at Blake’s lawsuit battle. The audience may have laughed, but viewers? They were not! The Deadpool star received a ton of backlash online! Not only that, the joke could bite him in the ass and hurt their case against Justin! They are trying to argue that the filmmaker’s alleged sexual harassment and smear campaign caused Blake and her family emotional distress… yet Ryan can laugh and joke about it?
There is, of course, gallows humor. But will the judge see it that way? And if Blake and Ryan attended the Met Gala, would it have continued to harm their case? Possibly! Guess skipping the event again this year was for the best!
