30 days after their wedding, a 37-year-old man stabbed his 27-year-old wife 26 times with a kitchen knife in front of her baby.
BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Bibb County man was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his wife to death while her child was in the room, according to a release from the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
They say AIdris Alaka, 37, was found guilty on Thursday of murdering Brittany Wright, 27. The murder happened in August 2022 just 30 days after their wedding.
The release said Alaka stabbed Wright 26 times with a kitchen knife in front of her baby. They say it happened in the bedroom at their home on Courtland Avenue in Bibb County.
Two people, who were renting another bedroom in the same home, testified that they heard noises and then saw Alaka stabbing Wright. One of the witnesses said they got the baby out of the room and then got help.
A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputy who responded to the call said he found Wright dead and Alaka covered in blood.
“This was a heinous act of domestic violence that took the life of a young mother and traumatized others,” Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard said.
Alaka was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony after a four-day trial. He tried to claim that intruders broke into the home, but was unsuccessful.
