AUSTIN, Texas — Police are investigating an incident at an Austin Tesla dealership where “incendiary devices” were discovered on Monday morning.
According to the Austin Police Department, at approximately 8:04 a.m., officers responded to calls of suspicious devices found at the Tesla dealership off of U.S. 183 in North Austin.
When they arrived, they found the devices and called the bomb squad to investigate. They determined they were incendiary devices and were taken into police custody without incident.
APD said this is an open and ongoing investigation.
The Austin incident follows an FBI alert issued on Friday about people targeting Tesla dealerships around the country. The FBI said incidents targeting Tesla electric vehicles have occurred in at least nine states since January. These incidents range from arson, gunfire and vandalism, including graffiti depicting racist or fascist symbols or denouncing political ideologies. The FBI believes these incidents have been conducted by lone offenders and happen at night.
The FBI urges the public to look out for suspicious activity in areas occupied by Tesla dealerships or Tesla-related entities, including the following:
-
Violent threats made online referencing specific Tesla properties
-
Inquiring or examining security measures at Tesla dealerships
-
Photography of security-related equipment or personnel at Tesla dealerships
-
Unusual surveillance or interest in Tesla-related entities
-
Attempts to gain access to restricted areas or bypass security measures at Tesla-related properties
