    The Boys
    season 5.

The Boys star Colby Minifie speaks about a key decision made by her character, Ashley, at the end of season 4. Ashley Barrett is a lead character in the Prime Video series, who stars as Vought’s Director of Talent Relations in The Boys season 1 and is eventually promoted to acting CEO of Vought. Ashley has a lively season in The Boys season 4, as her relationships with the original Seven as well as other supe characters such as Tek Knight are explored during the season.

Speaking with TVLine, Minifie discusses why Ashley does not go with A-Train when Vought begins falling apart. The actor stated that Ashley “knows the inner workings of Vought too closely” to leave. If she had left Vought, she would have been “hunted down and murdered pretty quickly,” and “it absolutely terrifies her to actually leave the thing.” Minifie likened Ashley leaving Vought to be “like leaving an abuser.” The performer also pointed out that Ashley’s alliance with A-train was fairly newly formed, so joining forces with him would be risky. Check out the full quote from Minifie below:

I think the devil you know is much safer to her than the devil she doesn’t know. I also think that she knows the inner workings of Vought too closely. I think she knows, on some level, that she wouldn’t last a day knowing what she knows. I think she would be hunted down and murdered pretty quickly. [Plus] that’s a really new alliance that she’s formed with A-Train. A-Train’s been a pain in her ass for so many years, and I think there is a new trust there, but to drop everything and go based on [an idea she had when] she was really drunk [is a big ask]. I think it absolutely terrifies her to actually leave the thing. It’s like leaving an abuser. Like, it’s much harder to leave when you don’t know what the other world looks like.

Ashley Is Headed For A Crazy Arc In The Boys Season 5

Ashley Takes Compound V In The End Of Season 4

Even without leaving Vought, Ashley was in a perilous position in this season of The Boys. The Boys season 4 finale saw her being hunted down by The Deep and other members of the Seven, who were trying to kill Ashley. The replacement Black Noir does end up killing an Ashley, but it is not the right Ashley, for he ends up brutally murdering Ashley Barrett’s assistant, who is also named Ashley. That leaves the main Ashley with more character arc left to go in what is sure to be an eventful The Boys season 5.

If her promotion to CEO in season 3 was not enough, The Boys season 4 finale arguably sees the biggest turn for Ashley yet. As she fears for her life in Vought Tower, Ashley accesses the storage area for Compound V and decides to take the supe-ifying substance for herself. After an injection, Ashley convulses, confirming the substance has entered her bloodstream, but her powers have not yet been revealed.

The nature of Ashley’s powers is a big cliffhanger for The Boys season 4 that can be further articulated in the final season of the series. Whether her powers are related to strength, intelligence, or another special skill, Ashley’s Compound V ingestion makes her a much more powerful character going into the final arc. She could end up joining forces with the supes, or join the fight against Homelander. Either way, Ashley will be much harder to kill in The Boys season 5, leaving the character with more runway.
