The Golden Bachelor wedding reception included the traditional bouquet toss by the bride, Theresa Nist, who wanted to do it at the beginning of the party, rather than at the end, and a few of her co-stars from her husband Gerry Turner’s season, Anna Zalk, Joan Vassos, and Kathy Swarts, all walked away with pieces of the coveted flower arrangement. Tradition says that whoever catches the bride’s bouquet at a wedding will be the next to get married. Because of this, Theresa’s flowers were something that many of the single women wanted to catch.

Throughout The Golden Bachelor Golden Wedding, some of the women of the series played major roles. Kathy Swarts was a “Gold Carpet” correspondent, along with The Bachelorette season 20 star, Charity Lawson. They interviewed guests as they arrived for the wedding. In addition, Susan Noles officiated Gerry and Theresa’s wedding ceremony. Several of the other women attended, including runner-up Leslie Fhima, Faith Martin, Ellen Goltzer, Sandra Mason, April Kirkwood, Nancy Hulkower, Edith Aguirre, Natascha Hardee, Patty James, Joan, and Anna. However, three of the women caught pieces of Theresa’s bouquet.

When Theresa tossed her bouquet, the women began to scramble to find the best position to catch it. Although the scene became chaotic, a video from The Knot posted on YouTube, clearly shows the bouquet landing in Anna Zalk’s arms. However, several of the other women began to grab at it, and Joan soon triumphantly held up a piece of it.

Before Theresa threw the bouquet, Kathy repeatedly said that she wanted to catch it. She and some of the other women including Natascha Hardee and Nancy Hulkower were pushing each other out of the way before Theresa threw it. April Kirkwood hilariously covered her head as the bouquet sailed over her. After the bouquet ended up in Anna’s arms, Kathy pushed her way to her, and then grabbed a piece of it.

Watching the women fight to catch Theresa’s bouquet was a funny moment, but it was also beautiful. It’s rare to see so many women over the age of 60 so eager to catch a bouquet at a wedding. It shows that the Golden Bachelor contestants still have hope that they’ll find another love in their lives. And, if ABC gives the fans what they want, that could happen through the first-ever season of The Golden Bachelorette. It would be wonderful to see Anna, Joan, Kathy, or any of the other Golden Bachelor contestants as the first-ever lead of The Golden Bachelorette. Hopefully, this will happen in the near future.
