On Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, Nen of Webcomics Hub did part 2 of a live-stream where they put together a tier list of every current comics platform available. Near the end of the stream, they did a quick advertisement for the Words and Pictures comic jam announcing that there would be a follow-up to it in August of 2024 with a redesign of the website along with its mascot to go along with this year’s Words and Picture comic jam.
Having watched the stream, I reached out to Nen. They were happy to provide information that wasn’t on the live stream for those who might be interested in joining the contest for fun.
The Words and Pictures Comic Jam will be accepting submissions from August 1st to September 1st with the current theme being Bubbles. The requirements for entry to the contest is at least 3 pages or 25 vertical scrolling panels related to the theme while also telling a complete story within that space. Various art styles are accepted including Manga.
The content guideline rules also include no gratuitous violence, pornography of any kind, or graphic content. Generative AI used to create the comic and art is also not allowed along with any art related to or promoting NFTs. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your entry being disqualified from the contest.
There is a prize pool for winners along with plans to have sponsors and supporters to ensure that creators will be compensated for participating and winning the award. There will also be a Judging panel of 2 to 3 Judges with a small audience voting angle to encourage people to share their work. The Prize pool details are as follows:
- 1st Place winner will receive $500 USD + Clip Studio EX Perpetual License + A Gen 2 XP-Pen Artist Pro 14 tablet
- 2nd Place winner will receive $300 USD + 1 year Clip Studio EX License + A Gen 2 Little Prince Edition XP-Pen Artist 12 tablet
- 3rd Place winner will receive $200 USD + 6 month Clip Studio EX License + A Gen 2 XP-Pen Deco Pro
- Runner ups will receive a 6 month Clip Studio EX License
Nen will be providing the monetary awards with Celys and XP Pen providing the Clip Studio Paint licenses and the drawing tablets as part of the collaboration in making this contest possible.
