Warrior Nun Showrunner Reveals Cut Death Scene From Season 2

Summary

  • Lilith almost killed her mother in season 2 of Warrior Nun, but the scene was cut because it didn’t advance the story.
  • Killing her mother would have been justifiable for Lilith, who had become an anti-hero and embraced her powers.
  • In season 3, Lilith would have embraced chaos even more, and her mother’s death could have been tied to the plot.

Warrior Nun showrunner Simon Barry has revealed a cut death scene from season 2 that wasn’t used for story purposes. Season 2 featured many major deaths, such as Shotgun Mary, Pope Duretti, and Adriel. Another death came in the form of Michael Salvius, who was brutally murdered by Lilith in the season finale.

Now, while speaking to The OCS Newsletter, Barry revealed that Lilith almost killed another character in Warrior Nun season 2: her mother.

While discussing her family at 1:02:38, the showrunner revealed there was a scene during Ava’s fight with Lilith that would have revealed she killed her mother a few episodes prior. However, the scene was cut because it wasn’t relevant to the story. Check out what Barry had to say below:

We did cut a scene out of that. [Lilith] kills her mother. Yeah, she murders her mother. And then we don’t find it out until the end of the Ava fight with Lilith. So Ava hits her in the face with the mace. And Lilith is injured and disappears. And then Ava turns and the mother is in the next room dead, with blood all over her. And it’s just, like, gruesome. I decided to cut it out because it didn’t really advance the story. It was great for Lilith because she killed her own mother, which I thought was fantastic. But…it sort of threw a wrench into the flow of the end of that episode and what was going on with Ava. But yeah, she kills her mother.

Why Lilith Killing Her Mother Makes Sense

Throughout season 2, Lilith is trying to better understand her developing powers from Reya’s dimension, but is forced to do so on her own. Early in her journey, she returns home to her mother, who writes her off as a disappointment for not becoming the next Halo Bearer. It’s indicated that the only reason she cared about her daughter was because of her potential to raise the family’s importance within the Church.

However, by the time Warrior Nun season 2 ends, Lilith has become an anti-hero, siding with Adriel in order to further her own agenda of understanding her powers. Because of this decision, it makes sense she would kill her mother for not caring about her as a daughter and only seeing her as a status symbol. Since the now-powerful former OCS member has embraced her powers to the extreme, her killing her mother would also be seen as justifiable to her.

While it’s unclear what Lilith’s story would have been in Warrior Nun season 3, this same interview saw Barry reveal she would embrace chaos to a higher caliber than ever before. Because of this, it’s likely she would have taken on a much different role, adding to the complexity of her character. Season 3 may have even seen her mother’s death come to fruition in a scene tied closer to the plot.

Lilith also appears in Ben Dunn’s Warrior Nun Areala comics, albeit with a different role and story.
