Bleeding Cool reports that Dark Horse Comics will publish a Rocky Horror Picture Show comic in time for the cult musical’s 50th anniversary this Halloween, and that it will be scripted by Magdalene Visaggio (Girlmode, Kim & Kim). Visaggio has confirmed the news on Bluesky, stating it will be a sequel titled Bride of Rocky Horror, and that she has even composed music for it:
Visaggio elaborated that the above track, “Seven Years (It Ain’t Easy),” establishes the comic is set seven years after the film, and also shared the character of Brad Majors (played by Barry Bostwick in the movie) will have transitioned into a woman named Bridget von Frankenstein (something conveyed by another demo, “Behind the Veil”):
Based on the 1973 stage musical by Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a horror comedy telling the story of Brad and their fiancée Janet (Susan Sarandon), who inadvertently become guests of the transvestite mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). The film became a cult classic thanks to countless midnight screenings, meaning it remains the longest-running theatrical release in film history.
It has an especially strong following in the LGBT+ community thanks to its camp tone and plot, so it’s particularly appropriate a trans woman like Visaggio is writing the official sequel. O’Brien did pen a film spin-off called Shock Treatment, which was released in 1981 and starred Jessica Harper and Cliff DeYoung as Janet and Brad, but since it never gained the same following, it’s understandable the comic appears to be ignoring it (although Visaggio commented she was interested in incorporating two songs from it.)
Expect more details on Bride of Rocky Horror to be released ahead of the comic’s reported October debut, including who’ll comprise the rest of the creative team. In the meantime, you can check out more demo tracks for the comic on the Soundcloud page for Visaggio’s group, Daisy & Jane, and maybe even treat yourself to a viewing (midnight or otherwise) of the movie itself. (In other words, let’s do the time warp again!)
