The lead singer of the iconic ‘90s group Vengaboys Kim Sasabone is taking a step away after more than 25 years riding the Vengabus.
The Dutch band is behind some of the greatest hits of the decade, including Up and Down, We Like to Party and We’re Going to Ibiza with Sasabone lending her vocals to them all.
“Sometimes even legends need a break. The amazing Captain Kim is taking some time off,” the band revealed on their official Instagram account on Monday.

“After 25+ years of unforgettable, high energy performances her time has come for some rest and relaxation. In true Venga style, the party doesn’t stop – Kim has invited the incredible Cilla from Chipz to step in for now.
“We can’t wait for all those beach pics! Much love to Kim from all of us and the Vengafans around the world! – see you soon!”
Sasabone also took to the band’s Instagram post to share a message for their fans.
“Hello Party People! This is Captain Kim speaking, I wanted to personally let you know that it’s time for me to hit the pause button for a little while,” she wrote.
“Being on the road since 1997 – driving that good ol’ Vengabus – has been the adventure of a lifetime.

“It has shaped me into the person I am today, and I’m so proud and thankful of everything we’ve achieved together. I’ll miss my Vengafamily, the stage, and of course, YOU – our amazing fans.
“Your [love] and loyalty mean the world to me, and I’m so grateful for the incredible connection we’ve shared over the years. But don’t worry! Our Non Stop World Tour will keep going strong with the fabulous Cilla from Chipz stepping in to keep the energy sky-high.
Despite announcing her replacement Cilla Niekoop, Sasabone has revealed that the farewell isn’t final and she will likely to return to the band after a break.

“This isn’t goodbye – just a slightly extended disco nap. Thank you for your understanding, your love, and your support. All my love Captain Kim,” she concluded the message.
Sasabone also took to her personal Instagram revealing that she shared the “difficult decision” with a “broken heart”.
Hundreds were quick to take to the comment section with messages of love and support for the Vengaboys’ leading woman including her band mates.
“Love you big and brave sis,” wrote Sasabone’s fellow female vocalist Denise Post-Van Rijswijk.
“We will keep that Vengabus rolling smoothly. Awaiting your return. Love you lots, Dear Sis,” band mate Donny Latupeirissa wrote.
Sasabone’s replacement Niekoop even took to the comment section with a heartfelt message.
“Take care Kim! It’s a (sic) honor to step in for now. The Vengabus will be waiting whenever you’re ready,” she wrote.
Sasabone has been the lead vocalist for the band since it first formed in 1997 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

As a Eurodance movement, the band were a cultural phenomenon and even today call themselves “Europe’s #1 Party Act” in their Instagram bio.
The band have sold an estimated 25 milion records worldwide and despite first going on hiatus in 2002 have kept the band in motion with various new releases and tours over the years.
Vengaboys are currently touring with their Non Stop World Tour and even coming to Australia in January.
