Unicorn Overlord physical copies sold out at retail in Japan

Atlus, the publisher of Unicorn Overlord, recently announced that physical copies of the game have sold out at retail stores across Japan. Released worldwide on March 8, 2024, the game has seen an overwhelming response from fans, leading to a sudden shortage of physical copies.In a statement addressing the shortage, Atlus expressed its apologies for any inconvenience caused by the sold-out status of Unicorn Overlord. The company also conveyed its “deep gratitude” to fans for their overwhelming support, which contributed to the game’s successful sales. To accommodate eager players, Atlus mentioned that copies are being restocked and shipped out in order of purchase. Fans are encouraged to make reservations at their local retailers to secure a copy as soon as they become available again.

For those unable to get their hands on a physical copy, Atlus reassured fans that the digital version of Unicorn Overlord is readily accessible on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store. The standard edition of the digital version is priced at ¥8,778, while the Monarch Edition, priced at ¥13,178, includes a 16-bit Arranged Music Album with 20 tracks and a 132-page digital art book showcasing artwork from the game. Regarding the timeline for restocking physical copies, Atlus did not provide specific details on when retailers can expect a new shipment or when the game will be back in stock in Japan. The publisher also did not disclose whether the shortage was due to underestimating demand or under-shipping to retailers.

Unicorn Overlord, developed by Vanillaware, boasts the studio’s distinctive watercolor art style, turn-based tactical combat, and an expansive roster of over 100 characters to interact with, with 60 characters available for players to control. The game is available to play on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X, offering a diverse and engaging experience for fans of tactical RPGs.
