Transformers One Sequel Gets Optimistic Update From Star
Bryan Tyree Henry is hopeful about Transformers One’s chances of a sequel, and is eager to explore the further foundational events in the coming war for Cybertron. The 2024 animated feature is a prequel to the Transformers movie franchise, exploring how miners Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Henry) rose to become the legendary leaders Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively. Alongside Hemsworth and Henry, Transformers One‘s cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Keegan Michael-Key, Jon Hamm, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Buscemi as many of the key characters who would reshape Cybertron.
While no official confirmation of a Transformers One sequel has been given, Henry revealed that he is still hopeful that a sequel will be greenlit when speaking to Screen Rant. When asked whether there had been a new update on the potential future of the Transformers animated movie series, Henry stated that he was hopeful that the franchise’s future would live up to the movie’s title and pave the way for a sequel:
Well, you can’t have a Transformers One in the title without having a Transformers Two, you know what I mean?
Furthermore, the actor affirmed that he was invested in exploring the growing divide between Optimus and Megatron that would set the planet of Cybertron on a tragic path. Check out Henry’s response below:
We still gotta see what happens with Megatron and Optimus.
What Henry’s Response Means For Transformers One’s Future
The Movie’s Performance May Leave A Sequel’s Chances Uncertain
Henry’s interest in seeing what comes next for the animated feature’s future is one shared by a passionate fanbase online. The conclusion to Transformers One sees Optimus assume the mantle of Autobot leader and his status as a Prime, while the now exiled Megatron and Cybertronian Royal Guard form the Decepticons. As such, Transformers One is only the first chapter in a much larger story, as the conflict all are familiar with is yet to begin.

Despite this ending, however, the future of the animated franchise is uncertain. While the movie was well-received by critics and audiences alike, Transformers One fell short at the box office, with Hasbro following this by reshaping how they finance movie adaptations of their properties. As such, unless an external studio takes an interest in fully financing a sequel, a continuation of Transformers One may never materialize.

Henry Is Clearly Eager To Explore Megatron’s Rise
With its ending and director Josh Cooley’s previous comments, there’s little doubt that there had been considerations about where a potential sequel to Transformers One could go. However, with Hasbro’s recent filmmaking restructures, every one of their IP’s theatrical futures is in limbo beyond a select few already in-development titles. Now, it is up to their previous partners, such as Paramount, whether any sequels would be a worthwhile investment.

Though Henry’s eagerness and a vocal, strong online fandom may show that there is some notable interest in continuing the story further, it is uncertain whether a studio would be willing to gamble on financing a sequel on this alone and hoping that the cult following the animated feature has found could net it a greater audience. At the very least, Henry’s response may offer hope to those who wish to see where his portrayal of Megatron will go after the events of Transformers One.
