Wonder Woman, Penguin and Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow writer Tom King posts to Threads, “I am using too many 6 panel pages.” James Gunn, head of DC and who is turning that Supergirl comic into a movie, replied, “Not possible.”
Tom King didn’t reply to that vote of confidence from his new boss, at least not publicly, but he did reply to a few others. The Lotusland Comics blog asked, “What happened to the nine panel pages?” which is something we were more familiar with in Rorschach, Heroes In Crisis and more. Tom replied, “I’m trying to find them!”

Virbocity Vagabond asked more seriously, “What usually pushes you towards that layout?” to Tom King’s response, “Mostly these days it’s cause I’m aiming for 5 and realize I stupidly need one more. It’s something like 1 to establish the scene, 3 more to set up a pattern, 1 to deliver a punchline that plays with that pattern. I change over time, but that’s my current scheme.”

Fellow writer Mark Russell shared one observation, “Amy Chu once told me that she only writes pages with an odd number of panels so that they can’t just be drawn as grids and I thought that was one of the smartest things I’d ever heard.”
