If you are feeling like today’s Connections is out of your norm, you should check out a few of our tips to try to get the right answers. There are a lot of possible answers, but you will have to look for the details that make one group of words more likely to be the right one than another. Once you start getting the hang of it, it will get easier, although you may still stumble if you are anything like me. Try using these hints to get the right answers.
If you need something different, try The Password Game puzzle. It is like a lot of mini-puzzles all rolled into one, and it should be quite satisfying for you to figure out. You will also have to figure out how all of the various mini-puzzles affect the main solution, which is definitely the hardest part. However, it can be very satisfying to see how it turns out in the end and to know you put that much effort into something that has a riddle-like appearance to it.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
MARCH 30 #658
If you are looking for hints to help make this puzzle a little easier, I’ve got you covered. There’s a very specific category in this group, and I was even surprised at just how specific it got. I don’t think its something the average person, or even someone who enjoys the things in the category but doesn’t study them religiously, would know, forcing you to rely on getting all the other categories correct. This, unfortunately, includes the purple category, which wasn’t something I would get on my own today:
- One category is about things that are just there and are not spectacular
- One category is about things that can be seen on something you have traded for something else
- One category is about specific words with a very specific use-case in a popular mode of entertainment
- One category is about four words that come before a different word in a phrase – that word is something that includes a fairly equal percentage of the population

PAR |
STANDARD |
The main issue with this category is likely the word PAR, as there are a lot of bowling/golf terms in this puzzle, and this one looks like it should go with it. There’s also a lot of “battle” terminology, and STANDARD is a typical thing a soldier or army would have, so that could also be a point of confusion. For me, it was recognizing that MEAN wasn’t for the typical usage of the word and instead was the math term. After that, it was a lot easier for me to finish this one off.

OLIVE BRANCH |
SHIELD |
This one was challenging to narrow down, although I had OLIVE BRANCh and EAGLE in the same category from the beginning. However, narrowing down what other symbols in this puzzle belonged here was much harder. I wasn’t really thinking of the American seal when I finally got the right answer, I just had a series of trial-and-error guesses that eventually led me to the right one. It did waste a lot of guesses, so maybe I should pay more attention to dollar bills when I see them.

BIRDIE |
DOLLY |
KATE |
YANKEES |
I consider myself a musical fan, and I even go out of my way to listen to a fair number of soundtracks, but this one was a little too specific for me. You would have to know that all of these words exist in Broadway musical titles and then also know that those words are proper nouns and spoken phrases at the same time. It feels extremely specific. I suppose as long as you recognized these as words from those musicals, the specificity wouldn’t matter, but it feels quite difficult to put together.

BOGEY |

SPOKES |
I was really stuck on BOGEY being the word used in bowling/golf and not a very different pronunciation of the word. I’m still not sure if I would’ve connected it to “man” along with all of these other words, but I didn’t quite get there before I had already lost the puzzle. It’s a shame, as I think it’s doable. SPOKES might be hard to connect, but my luck ran out before I even tried with this one.
