This Is Us Actors Reunite 2 Years After The Finale & Recreate Heartwarming Set Photo
This Is Us stars Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia reunite two years after the series finale. Moore and Ventimiglia played married couple Rebecca and Jack Pearson in the critically acclaimed series that aired for six seasons on NBC. The show’s non-linear narrative explored many periods in the lives of Rebecca, Jack, and their relationship, long before and after they met, along with the lives of many other characters throughout the emotional series’ 106 episodes.
On Instagram, the That Was Us podcast showed Moore and Ventimiglia reuniting and recreating a This Is Us behind-the-scenes photo they took together. Check out the photos below:
The podcast, which is hosted by Moore and her co-stars Sterling K. Brown and Chris Sullivan, features them rewatching and discussing each episode in the series. Other stars from the series, including Susan Kelechi Watson, have appeared as guests in past episodes, with Ventimiglia being another guest to join the podcast.
Why A This Is Us Revival Or Spinoff Doesn’t Need To Happen
The Series Is Complete In More Than One Way
Seeing the This Is Us actors together again is exciting, making a potential followup series tempting, but a continuation of the story does not need to happen. Series creator Dan Fogelman and members of the cast have spoken about how personal the story and This Is Us‘ ending was to his life and how Fogelman ended it the way he wanted, even filming the series finale’s flashbacks years in advance. Fogelman is unlikely to continue it, given how satisfied he was with the ending, and it is too personal of a story for anyone other than him to tell it.
Even a single member of the main cast not returning would make the family feel incomplete, and it is unlikely that every cast member would be able or willing to return.
Many revivals or spinoffs revolve around unexplored periods in their characters’ lives, usually in the form of a prequel or sequel series. The non-linear structure of This Is Us already explored many periods of each main character’s life in extensive detail from the moment they were born, along with their childhoods, adulthoods, and in certain cases, the characters’ deaths. There is little left to explore in the lives of Rebecca, Jack, and most of the other prominent characters.
Another challenge is that all the primary members of This Is Us‘ cast would need to return, as the show did not have a singular protagonist and featured an impressive ensemble cast that brought the Pearson family to life. Even a single member of the main cast not returning would make the family feel incomplete, and it is unlikely that every cast member would be able or willing to return. The That Was Us podcast is the best way to move forward as it celebrates This Is Us with new perspectives and insights without undermining the show’s legacy.
