There’s a Major ‘Ghost Adventures’ Controversy Happening That No One Is Talking About

From illicit affairs and sex scandals to embezzlement and tax evasion, reality television truly endeavors to explore the darkest corners of society with some of the most shameless, despicable people on the planet. We’ve seen these controversies bleed over into the real world and make an indeliable mark on culture, such as #Scandoval blow up the Internet and Real Housewives quips being interweaved into impassioned congressional speeches. One scandal that we aren’t talking nearly enough about has to be what’s going on with Ghost Adventures’ Aaron Goodwin.

Ghost Adventures is a reality TV tentpole on the Travel Channel, spanning 29 seasons, where the paranormal investigators hunt ghosts. As it turns out, while Aaron was searching every nook and cranny for supernatural disturbance, he was unwittingly part of a real-life horror movie when his wife Victoria Goodwin got arrested for conspiring to murder him with the help of a guy that was already in prison for murder. Yes, you read that correctly. So let’s dive in!

Unpacking Down Victoria’s Breakdown

Aaron and Victoria had a picture-perfect marriage: Aaron would write romantic posts about her on Instagram, they had a picturesque wedding, and they hadn’t even been married for three years, so they were still in the newlywed stage. While Aaron was off filming the show, Victoria took to bingewatching true-crime shows, as many bored people are wont to do. She came across the story of Grant Amato, who is currently incarcerated for famicide. Grant murdered his parents and brother because they wouldn’t give him money. The money was for his very one-sided romance with a webcam model, who required that he buy tokens to spend time with her.

Evidently, Victoria took a liking to Grant and they started writing letters to each other. Their romance blossomed from a pen pal relationship, and eventually it advanced to phone calls and text messages with a contraband flip phone Grant had. Grant and Victoria conspired to kill Aaron so he could be out of the picture, with Grant hiring a hitman to take out Aaron while he was out of town filming for Ghost Adventures. The hitman stopped returning Grant’s text messages when Grant asked him if he followed through with the murder, and for some reason, Aaron and the hitman never even crossed paths. Furthermore, no one even knows what has happened to the hitman since. What incriminated Grant and Victoria is that the prison guards confiscated Grant’s phone and went through the text messages.

The location’s dark past makes this ‘Ghost Adventures’ episode a hauntingly unforgettable experience.

Why Aren’t More People Talking About Victoria Goodwin?

Victoria recently pleaded guilty to conspiring to murder Aaron, and faces anywhere between 2 to 15 years behind bars. Aaron obviously filed for divorce because there isn’t enough couples therapy and ayahuasca retreats in the world to save any marriage from that kind of damage. The question is: why did Victoria choose to take the most difficult route possible to end her marriage with Aaron? Filing for divorce seems a hell of a lot easier.

She’s never once said that Aaron was a bad husband or why she was so unhappy, even well after getting exposed for trying to murder him. Interestingly enough, Victoria continued the charade with Aaron well after the hitman didn’t follow through, even posting cute Instagram posts with Aaron for Valentine’s Day and with their cat having a “cuddle puddle.” While she was conspiring to kill Aaron and having an emotional affair, she even went on a motivational podcast to spread some of her…unconventional wisdom.

What’s bewildering about this story is how not many people seem to be talking about it. Ghost Adventures is a long-running show with a passionate fanbase, and it’s not like conspiring to murder is a “Well, I need to hear both sides of the story” kind of issue. It’s astounding that Tom Sandoval cheating on Ariana Madix with Rachel Leviss sent more shockwaves through the entertainment industry, and you can’t help but wonder if people chose to fixate on that because it’s just a lot more marketable of a scandal than what happened to Aaron.
