The Voice’s Sundance Head Shares How He Accidentally Shot Himself

Jason “Sundance” Head is sharing details about a terrifying experience.

Days after being hospitalized for getting shot in the stomach near his Texas ranch, the Voice winner—who competed on season 11 of the reality competition series—spoke out on the life-threatening incident, which occurred while he was packing up his car to go on a solo hunting excursion.

“I started loading the Jeep to go to the other side of the property and put everything I needed in there,” Sundance recalled in a video shared to his Facebook Nov. 18. “Last thing to do was grab my backpack, and I travel all the time with a revolver in it. It’s old school and looks just like the kind of gun you would see in a western movie.”

But the 46-year-old forgot to use a strap to secure the firearm in its holster. So, when he put the bag in his passenger seat, it fell out into the vehicle.

“I set it down, and I backed up to walk away and I was shocked,” Sundance continued. “It happened that fast. And what happened was that revolver slid out of the case, and it hit the door jamb on the Jeep, on the floor step, and it shot me.”
