The Return of The POWER LORDS Lands Top-Tier Comic Creative Team (Exclusive)

Oni Press, one of the comic book industry’s most exciting indie publishers, continues to expand its nascent “Nacelleverse” with the release of Power Lords #1. Over forty years after the debut of the original toy line, the memorable figures will now be part of the action shaping up in Oni’s shared continuity, which also includes Biker Mice From Mars, Roboforce, and more.

Screen Rant is thrilled to share an exclusive look at Power Lords #1, written by Dennis Culver, with art by V. Ken Marion. The series is the long-awaited relaunch of the franchise, which remains a fond memory of ’80s kids, but has had to wait for its turn in the string of classic toy-line revivals that has become a fixture of comics over the last few years.

The teaser images for the Power Lords series tease a high-octane interstellar adventure, complete with lush cosmic imagery, which makes the world of the franchise already feel more immersive.

POWER LORDS From Oni Press Is Set To Make A Major Impact On The “Nacelleverse”

Power Lords – The Extra-Terrestrial Warriors first hit shelves in 1983, from toymaker Revell. The action figure series was accompanied by a three-issue DC Comics tie-in, published that same year, but beyond that, the franchise has languished somewhat in the intervening decades, waiting for its break-out adaptation. When the license to Power Lords was acquired by Nacelle, and the characters’ inclusion in the Nacelleverse shared continuity was announced, fans were immediately excited by the prospect of a comic series – and now it has finally arrived.

Publisher Oni Press describes the series this way:

Enter an alien realm beyond imagination as the beloved toy icons return to fuel 2025’s most epic, galaxy-spanning cosmic adventure from acclaimed writer Dennis Culver (
Unstoppable Doom Patrol
) and blockbuster artist V Ken Marion (
Green Lantern
)! When deep-space smuggler Adam Power comes into possession of the mysterious Power Jewel, he finds himself transformed into something far greater and more powerful than the sum of his parts—only to discover he’s been drafted into an eons-old battle between good and evil that could rend entire galaxies asunder! Standing alongside Shaya the Queen of Power, Sydot, and more, Adam Power is about to face the ultimate evil in the galaxy – Arkus! The next chapter of the NACELLEVERSE starts here as the POWER LORDS are reborn for a new generation!

It is clear that both Nacelle and Oni recognize the potential of Power Lords, and believe that it can replicate the success of the Thundercats comic reboot, or the latest Masters of the Universe series. The covers for the first issue emphasize the scope and the grand spectacle of this Power Lords series; readers familiar with the work of author Dennis Culver and artist V. Ken Marion will know that their previous work has primed them to invent a stunning cosmos for the Nacelleverse.

Hoping to replicate the success of Skybound Entertainment’s “Energon Universe” shared continuity, the Nacelleverse brings together a roster of unforgettable, classic toys from the 1980s and 1990s. The excitement of projects like this is, without a doubt, rooted in the opportunity each of these titles has to reimagine and reinvent a nostalgic property. Power Lords is perhaps the greatest example of this – having never appeared on screen, big or small, or in an extended comic book storyline, the franchise remains largely a blank slate.

Power Lords
has the potential to be the stand-out series of the early Nacelleverse releases.

This is what makes it thrilling that such a high-caliber creative team is taking on the task of bringing Power Lords to life. Dennis Culver and V. Ken Marion can be counted on to produce an ambitious, expansive take on the characters. While the creators will certainly honor the foundational attributes of the original action figures, readers should expect the series to quickly take them to unexpected places. Overall, Power Lords has the potential to be the stand-out series of the early Nacelleverse releases.

There is certainly an enduring love for the Power Lords among early ’80s kids, who can still remember the first run of the figures, and even late ’80s and early ’90s children, who played with their older siblings, or cousins, or neighbors’ hand-me-down toys. That said, the lack of media presence for the franchise over the last several decades has risked it being lost to time – something that Oni Press and the Nacelle Company have prevented by bringing the figures back as part of the Nacelleverse.
