90 Day Fiancé star Devin Hoofman and Seungdo “Nick” Ham got married on season 10 despite his hurtful comments about Devin’s body and weight. Devin is a 23-year-old who met 30-year-old Nick in Australia on dating app Tinder. Nick had moved to Australia from Daejeon to work and to learn English. He dated Devin for two years before homesickness made her move back to Searcy. Devin and Nick decided he should apply for a K-1 visa and move to America so they could get married. Their storyline began with Devin briefly visiting South Korea to meet Nick’s parents.

Nick’s parents had to approve of Devin and give her their blessings before the couple could marry. Once he had their permission, Nick proposed to Devin and headed to America. He felt out of place there as he saw he was the only Asian person around. Nick worried about his safety, but he received a warm welcome at Devin’s house. Devin’s parents and siblings made Nick feel comfortable in the U.S. However, Nick made a bad first impression by calling Devin “Piggy” in front of them. Devin’s parents, especially her father, had concerns about Nick. Her mom noticed that Devin was feeling insecure about her weight.

Nick Calls Devin ‘Piggy’ Because She’s ‘Chubby’

Nick went to eat chicken feet at a local market in South Korea where he randomly told the store owner that he called his girlfriend “Piggy.” Nick said that Devin called him “Monkey” and he called her “Piggy” because “she’s cute and a little chubby.” He said that he thought chubby “is kind of little fat” but he later realized that chubby “is quite fat.” He felt quite bad upon knowing what he meant but kept calling her “Piggy” anyway because according to him, “it’s just saying Devin is cute.”

However, after Nick said that South Koreans associate Americans with “greasy food and being fat,” during a family gathering,” he also pointed out that Devin was “lazy” and ate fast food for lunch. “No wonder you are piggy,” he told Devin and touched her stomach while saying, “Look at this.” Nick doubled down and admitted that he was “saying the truth” while Devin’s parents looked at him with shocked expressions.

Devin’s father admitted he thought “something was wrong with the boy” when they first met him because of Nick calling Devin “Piggy.” However, they came to realize that Nick was committed to Devin and felt comfortable going ahead with the wedding.
