The Perfect Story For Pysch 4 Would Pay Off A 10-Year-Old Crossover Tease

Summary

  • A crossover between Psych and Monk in a fourth movie would fulfill a 10-year-old tease and add excitement for viewers.
  • The quirky and fun characters from Monk interacting with the beloved characters from Psych would prevent the fourth movie from feeling stale.
  • The release of Monk’s Last Case confirms that a Psych crossover is possible, as Monk is still working and living in San Francisco.

The perfect story for Pysch 4 has already been set up and would pay off a decade-old crossover tease. Following the story of crime consultants, Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster, Psych gained incredible popularity during its eight-season run. Spencer’s unbelievable observational skills and Gus’s incredible intelligence make the show memorable and set it apart from other shows in the detective fiction genre. Luckily for those who enjoyed the show, the end of the Psych series did not mean bidding adieu to Shawn and Gus. There have been three feature-length films released after the show’s finale that explore what the beloved characters have been up to.

Though there is not much known about Pysch 4, such as its release date or storyline, there is a clear roadmap of where the film should go. The film should serve as a crossover between the Psych characters and another beloved series, which will ultimately be satisfactory to viewers and fulfill what has been teased for ten years. Furthermore, this crossover opens the door to even more film possibilities in the future, which makes it a win all around.

Psych 4 Should Be A Monk Crossover Movie

Psych 3 This Is Gus movie still with Shawn and Gus

While there are a number of directions Psych 4 could go in, it makes the most sense for it to be a Monk crossover movie. This would satisfy a 10-year-old crossover tease and add another exciting layer to an already anticipated project. While Psych 4 is highly anticipated, there have already been eight seasons of the show and three movies, which means that the characters have already been thoroughly explored. Adding a fourth movie into the mix could start to feel like an over-expansion of the franchise, but the introduction of Adrian Monk could help.

The characters in Monk are all quirky and fun and seeing them interacting with the characters of Psych would be exciting for viewers. Introducing these characters, who are new to the Psych franchise but still nostalgic because of Monk, would prevent a fourth movie from feeling stale. Having it be a crossover also expands the opportunities for future projects, as well. It would allow for more stories to be told with the characters of both series together.

Pysch & Monk’s Shared Universe Theories Explained

It has long been speculated that Pysch and Monk actually share a universe. Besides all that the two series have in common, there was a hint in the final minutes of the Pysch series finale when Shaun and Gus were at a crime scene in their new home city, San Francisco. When discussing if they wanted to return to their previous positions as consultants for Chief Vick, Vick informed them that the position had been filled by a new consultant. What tipped viewers off that this consultant was Monk was the fact that she then said he was in the process of alphabetizing the pantry, a clear nod to his obsessive tendencies. In addition, San Francisco is where Monk lives, so this theory further checks out.

USA Network, which housed both shows, was also not shy about promoting the fact that they could exist in the same universe. The characters were seen together multiple times in promotional materials, with one even showing Adrian and Shawn meeting one another. Though a crossover never did happen, it seems clear that one certainly could.

Monk’s Last Case Movie Means A Psych Film Crossover Can Work

After the release of Monk’s Last Case, a Pysch film crossover could definitely work. Monk’s Last Case confirms that Monk is working on cases, once again, and still lives in San Francisco. This opens up the door for him, Shaun, and Gus to connect with each other on a case, as they are all still in the same profession and live in the same city. Had Monk’s Last Case not happened, it could be argued that the crossover wouldn’t work because it’s unknown if Monk is still even working or living in San Francisco.

In an interview with ComicBook.com after the release of Monk’s Last Case, the series creator, Andy Breckman, confirmed that he is a fan of Psych. He did further say that he has always felt that Monk exists in its own universe, but that he’ll “never say never” to a crossover between the two beloved sets of characters. While this doesn’t serve as confirmation of a future crossover, it also doesn’t shut down the possibility of one.
