Now, Jill Whelan is married to former NFL quarterback Jeff Knapples.
And she hasn’t lost her love for cruising, working alongside Princess Cruises, and even being married onboard herself back in 2017.
Following The Love Boat, Whelan made numerous appearances on other series, such as Fantasy Island, Vegas and Trapper.
And although she says she will always hold fond memories of the show, adding that the first episode will always be her favourite, apparently it wasn’t always as glamourous as it seems.
The Love Boat was filmed aboard the real life cruise ship Pacific Princess, and Whelan says that it was mixed feelings between other passengers about the show being filmed during their holiday.
”Some people thought it would be an inconvenience to actually be on the ship while we were filming because we’ve restricted some areas,” she shares. “But other people booked specifically for that reason. “
The actress said they did have incentives though, to encourage passengers to be background extras.
“In my industry, there’s a lot of waiting around and sitting it’s not as exciting and glamorous as it seems most of the time,” Whelan says.
If the passengers agreed to be background extras, she says that they had to stick around for a while since the shots had to match.
“So we would give them raffle tickets and at the end of the cruise, they would have an opportunity to win a big prize and the big prize was a television.
“I think back at it now and it seems so sort of quaint and innocent.”
