The Comics COurier launches on Kickstarter

The state of comics journalism just got a huge shot in the arm with the launch of the Kickstarter for The Comics Courier, a new PRINT newspaper aimed at filling the void of serious comics criticism.

THE COMICS COURIER is the brainchild of Tiffany Babb (PanelxPanel, Popverse) and will be published IN PRINT as biannual tabloid sized newspaper dedicated to in-depth writing about comics. Contributors include a who’s who of current comics writers, including Douglas Wolk, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Tiffany Babb, Dave Baker, Carrie McClain, Sean Dillon, Kat Calamia, Lisa and Brad Gullickson, Liam McGuire, Jim McDermott, and Lillie Hochwender.

Babb explains why we need this: “While The Comics Courier is a love letter to comics, it’s even more so a love letter to comics criticism. Comics criticism is an essential part of the industry, and there’s less support and space for it with each passing year. I hope that The Comics Courier can serve as a space where amazing work by amazing critics can be celebrated and shared for years to come.”

The Comics Courier Kickstarter campaign has just launched is already speeding to its goal, but WE NEED TO SUPPORT THIS. We need good writing about comics in a lasting format and not just youtube videos and 200 word snippets on a toxic bot platform. And look at all the cool rewards: limited edition prints from comics artists Lee Gatlin, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux, branded reporter’s notebooks, and sponsorship slots.

Did we mention brand reporter’s notebook?
This is sure to become the most envied status symbol in the SDCC press room.

Why do comics need criticism? I’ll explain that in a future post but for now get over to THE COMICS COURIER campaign and support this noble cause.
