A young 27-year-old Jude Law played Dickie Greenleaf, a spoiled rich boy who lives with his girlfriend in sunny Sicily.
At the time, Law was relatively unknown. But that would all change once the film came out.
“Our actors had been catapulted into a level of stardom that they did not have when we shot the movie, so the audience was coming with a whole different lens of expectation,” producer William Horberg told Vanity Fair in 2023.
This became Law’s breakout role, but according to the publication, he actually rejected it several times.
“But [director Anthony Minghella] got really, really convinced that he couldn’t make the movie without Jude, and his persistence paid off.”
