Teaser Trailer For Toho’s Animated Film Project GHOST CAT ANZU — GeekTyrant

GKids has released the first teaser trailer for Toho’s upcoming animated film project Ghost Cat Anzu. Directors Yoko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita are overseeing the Japanese release which also comes from Japan’s Shin-Ei Animation and France’s Miyu Productions.

The film’s story centers on 11-year-old Karin, who is abandoned by her father at her grandfather’s house, the monk of a small town in the Japanese countryside. “Her grandfather asks Anzu, his jovial and helpful although rather capricious ghost cat, to look after her. The meeting of these two strong characters causes sparks, at least at the beginning… “

The film is a rotoscoped 2D animation film that stars Mirai Moriyama, who voices Anzu, and Noa Gotō, who voices Karin. Both of them played their characters in live-action, and their performances became the reference for the animators, with both their dialogue and their movements being converted into the final footage. It looks like a delightful movie!

The film is based on the manga by Takashi Imashiro and it opens in Japan in July 2024. Ghost Cat Anzu will be released in select US theaters later in 2024.
