Taylor Swift shouts out ‘boyfriend’ Travis Kelce after record-breaking VMA haul

Taylor Swift has made no secret of her love for Travis Kelce.

She has cheered the Kansas City Chiefs tight-end on at his NFL games, held his hand proudly in front of paparazzi and even performed on stage with him during her record-breaking Eras Tour.

But until now the Fortnight singer has never actually spoken his name on stage.

The crowd chanted “Taylor” as she took to the stage to accept the VMA Award for Video Of The Year for the Fortnight music video at the 2024 VMAs. And after shouting out her creative team, she was swift to give a sweet shout out to the man who has held her hand through so much of the past year.

Swift explained that while the Fortnight video seems sad, creating it was the opposite.

”The thing is that this video seems very sad when you watch it but it actually was like the most fun video to make,” she said.

She continued to explain that after finishing every take she would hear someone cheering for her and the team from somewhere in the studio. That someone was Kelce.

”That one person was my boyfriend, Travis,” she said as the crowd burst into excited screams.

“Everything this man touches turns to happiness, fun and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot.”

Swift beamed with pride as the audience erupted over her mention of her boyfriend’s name.

And the excitement among the crowd – who are no strangers to the world of global music stars – provides only a glimpse into the excitement that would have been felt by Swifties across the globe at the superstar’s simple yet powerful mention of her boyfriend

While Kelce has been vocal about his love for the global superstar for a while now, Swift has remained relatively tight-lipped. 

Mentioning his name for the first time on a global stage is a strong declaration of her love for him and is a major milestone in their love story.

The declaration also comes after a fake PR contract circulated online claiming to be a “media plan” for the NFL star, 34, after his “breakup with Taylor Swift”.

A representative for Kelce spoke out revealing that “these documents are entirely false and fabricated and were not created, issued or authorised by [Kelce’s PR agency].”

Swift’s recent comments seem to further solidify that their relationship remains solid.

Alongside shouting out Kelce, Swift also honoured her creative team and her fans before closing her speech by encouraging US citizens to register for the upcoming presidential election.

Earlier in the night before taking out the VMA for Video Of The Year which is the biggest award of the night, Swift snagged four others. Her haul included Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing and Song of the Summer.

Her impressive trophy collection means she has now won a record-breaking 30 moon men beating Beyoncé’s record of 25 for the most MTV Video Music Award Wins. She has also become the first artist to win the VMA for Video Of The Year five times.

”Thank you. Directing this video and putting it together and writing it was the most wonderful experience and that is because of all the people that I got to make it with and that includes Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles who were amazing cameos,” she commenced.

“That includes my amazing cinematographer and DP Rodrigo Prieto who goes out of his way to work with female directors. He’s a genius a genius and I can’t believe I got to work with him as well as Ethan Tobman my amazing production designer who I’ve worked with on the Eras Tour. Post Malone who we all love so much.

“The thing is that this video seems very sad when you watch it but it actually was like the most fun video to make and something that I would always remember is that when I would finish a take and I’d say cut and we’d be done with that take I would always just hear like someone like cheering and like ‘woo’ like from across the studio um where we were shooting it and that one person was my boyfriend, Travis.

“Everything this man touches turns to happiness, fun and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because all of us remember that.

“And to the fans, I’m always trying to figure out a way to say thank you to you for making my life what it is, for making The Eras Tour what it has become, for making The Tortured Poets Department what it has become.

“That’s all you guys for doing that and for voting for this award so thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank my fans. Thank you for what you’ve done and the fact that this is a fan voted award and you voted for this I appreciate it so much and if you’re over eighteen please register to vote for something else that’s very important coming up the presidential election.

“I love you all so so much. Thank you for this moment,” Swift concluded.
