Taylor Swift Eras Tour: American who made social media threats against Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce detained

An American man who made threats against Taylor Swift on social media was detained by police ahead of her first Eras Tour concert in the German city of Gelsenkirchen.

He will be kept in custody until her shows there are over, police said on Thursday.

The suspected stalker, a 34-year-old whose name wasn’t released, had a ticket to Swift’s concert at Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena on Wednesday, police said in a statement.

They said because an initial investigation couldn’t entirely rule out a risk he was detained during entry checks to the event.

Police said the man had made threats against Swift and her partner, Travis Kelce, on social media.

They said he had been detained following tips from organisers of the event.

The American superstar has shows in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as part of her global tour.

A local court ordered the suspected stalker be kept in detention until Saturday, police said.

They added that there was no danger at any point to Swift or to the audience.

Ahead of the concerts, the city put up signs temporarily renaming itself “Swiftkirchen” and honoured the singer on a “Walk of Fame” that commemorates local celebrities.

Singer spotted having the time of her life at the Eras Tour

After Gelsenkirchen, Swift has concerts planned in two other German cities, Hamburg and Munich, before taking the show on the road to Poland in early August.

The Shake it Off singer has already done a concert in Munich earlier this week, with comedian and TV host Nikki Glaser in the audience.

Glaser has since gone viral on social media for her singing along to one of Swift’s latest hits Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
