Yesterday (December 5) at around 7:08pm police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Sutton High Street.
London Ambulance Service has confirmed that several resources were sent to the scene, along with support from London Air Ambulance.
The 17-year-old boy died at the scene.
As of 4.30pm on Wednesday, Sutton High Street is still closed between Mulgrave Road and Grove Road, and a crime scene is in place.
Metropolitan Police has confirmed that they are treating this case as a murder and that it is currently in the “early stages“.
A post-mortem will be carried out and the victim’s family have been informed of his death.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
A local business has said that businesses in Sutton High Street between the BP garage in Brighton Road and the Zizzi’s in the High Street have not been able to open today due to police investigations.
The general mood, he said, has been “dampened” after the sombre news today.
Owner of La Café, Ankur Baria, told Your Local Guardian: “I went to open the cafe today in the morning, and we were not allowed to go in.
“Nobody can open, from anywhere between the BP garage and the Zizzi’s and it could take all day, we just don’t know.”
He added: “In the last few months this is a second or third case of stabbing, it feels even more awful to know someone lost a life.
“When you see that one life is lost, it just dampens everything even more and my heart goes out to the family.“
Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, leader of the investigation said: “This afternoon, as Londoners go about their day, a family is reeling from the shock of losing a young family member to violence in our city.
“Help us identify and remove the dangerous individual responsible from your streets – tell us what you know, what you have heard, or share any images or footage you may have.
“My officers are waiting to hear from you, whether you call, email, or speak anonymously through Crimestoppers – If you can help please do the right thing and get in touch.
“Our investigation, though in its early stages, is moving at a pace and while we work to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder, our thoughts are with the young man’s family as they struggle to come to terms with their loss.”
Sutton Station is also currently closed and a number of local bus routes are on diversion due to the closure of Sutton High Street as investigations continue.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, leading policing for the Met’s South Area Command, said: “I know that those who live and work in Sutton will be shocked and saddened at the loss of a young life on the streets that they call home.
“I share those emotions and would like to reassure local people that we are doing everything we can to support our homicide colleagues in identifying and apprehending the person, or persons responsible.
“I urge anyone who is concerned to approach officers on patrol and speak with them or get in touch with their Neighbourhood policing team.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this sad time. I would like to thank the community for their patience as we carry out our enquiries, and urge anyone with information concerning this incident to get in touch.”
In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, MP for Sutton Paul Scully offered his condolences to the grieving family.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police and London Ambulance Service were called to Sutton High Street at about 19:10hrs on Tuesday, 5 December, following reports that a teenager had been stabbed.
“On arrival, officers found a 17-year-old boy suffering with stab wounds. They provided first aid until medics arrived, but despite the best efforts of emergency services to save him, he sadly died at the scene.
“Next of kin have been notified and they are being supported by specialist officers.
“A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
“At this early stage there have been no arrests.
“A crime scene remains in place in the vicinity of Sutton Railway Station while the scene is forensicated and local enquiries are conducted.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday (5 December) at 7:02pm to reports of a stabbing on Sutton High Street, SM1.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, an ambulance crew, and a medic in a fast-response car.
“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a trauma team by car.
“Our crews treated a person. Sadly, despite the team’s best efforts, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.
