The police cordon in Sutton High Street has been lifted and the road has reopened after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Tuesday night.
Parts of Sutton High Street remained closed this morning whilst crime scene investigations were still ongoing, and buses were still being diverted until recently.
A video from earlier in the day showed police still on site with police tape marking a crime scene.
The road was closed between Mulgrave Road and Grove Road.
On Tuesday (December 5) at around 7:08pm police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Sutton High Street after reports that a boy had been stabbed.
London Ambulance Service has confirmed that several resources attended, along with support from London Air Ambulance.
A 17-year-old boy died at the scene.
Trains were also unable to call at the station yesterday evening.
Trains that usually began and terminated at Sutton instead started and terminated from Carshalton for trains via Mitcham Junction, and West Sutton for trains via Wimbledon.
Customers journey times were expected to take up to 30 minutes longer due to alterations.
At around 8.30pm on November 6, trains began to run as normal and passengers were able to access the station.
Metropolitan Police has confirmed that they are treating this case as a murder and that it is currently in the “early stages“.
A post-mortem will be carried out and the victim’s family have been informed of his death.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
In an update released by Met Police today (December 7), Superintendent Lewis Collins said: “I know that those that live, work and visit Sutton and will be shocked and concerned, as am I, by the recent death of such a young person.
“Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.
“Sutton Police will be working alongside our homicide colleagues and local partners, to ensure that we provide reassurance and visible presence across Sutton.
“We will continue to work to drive down Knife Crime and violence across the borough and bring offenders to justice.
“Officers will be dedicated to reassurance patrols within the town centre and will be attending multiple festive events across Sutton over the weeks leading up to the festive period.
“If you have any concerns please approach one of the team or get in though with your local neighbour team.”
