Stanger Things 5 has officially started shooting and the first photos from the set have surfaced. The photos that have been shared online feature Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, and he’s visiting Eddie Munson’s gravesite.
A couple of things to point out is that Eddie’s tombstone has been vandalized. The other thing is that Dustin is sporting a tattered D&D Hellfire Club t-shirt. The death of Eddie must still weigh heavily on Dustin, which makes sense as they became strong friends in Season 4.
A lot of fans are hoping that Joseph Quinn will return as Eddie in the final season of Stranger Things. There is definitely a way to bring the character back! We just don’t know if that is part of the story the Duffer Bros. want to tell.
In Season 4, Eddie sacrificed himself to the vicious Demobats so that Robin, Nancy, and Steve could kill Vecna’s body in the Upside Down. Eddie ended up being bitten several times, and he bled out and died in Dustin’s arms.
Eddie could come back in the next chapter as the Dungeons & Dragons vampire character Kas, who is a trusted right-hand man and lieutenant to Vecna in D&D. Vecna could come across Eddie’s body and revive him in the same way that Eleven helped Max and possess him with the mind flayer. Kas eventually turns on Vecna, betrays him, and kills him.
It would be a really cool way to go, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Regardless, it’s nice to see that Eddie will be remembered in Season 5.
When talking about the final season, co-creator Ross Duffer previously shared that this final chapter of the story is going to be an emotional arc for Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and that it will tie the entire series together. Ross Duffer explained: “Will really takes center stage again in [season] 5. This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together. Will is used to being the young one, the introverted one, the one that’s being protected. So part of his journey, it’s not just sexuality – it’s Will coming into his own as a young man.”
When previously describing Stranger Things 5, the writing team said the next chapter of the story is “like if Season 1 and 4 had a baby. And then that baby was injected with steroids.”
We will see what that looks like soon enough. Stranger Things Season 5 is set to hit Netflix in 2025. Check out the photos below.
