Storm King Comics signs with SCB Distributors

SCB Distributors has entered the Post-Diamond landscape chat – Storm King Comics has signed a deal with the Gardena, CA based company for distribution in the United States and in global English-language markets for its collected editions.

SCB Distributors is a well established indie book distro, founded in 1988. They currently handle 150 publishers and 5000 titles. Other graphic novel publishers they carry include Avery Hill, Last Gasp, Silver Sprocket and One Peace among graphic novel publishers.

Storm King is the horror line founded by Sandy King Carpenter, with such flagship titles as John Carpenter’s Asylum, John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight, Storm King Comics Dark & TwistedJohn Carpenter’s Night Terrors, and John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids. It’s a scrappy indie publisher that has been around for more than a decade, but offers too small a line for a Lunar or PRH.

Storm King was previously exclusive with Diamond, but starting immediately it’s front and back list will be available via SCB for both comics and bookstores.

“Our first decade was devoted to building a brand that readers could turn to time and again for the most imaginative, exciting and compelling creations from incredible storytellers,” said Sandy King Carpenter, founder and editor of Storm King Comics. “Now, we want to build a more robust relationship with retailers and make sure readers can find our titles with ease. We have been impressed with SCB’s capabilities and integrity, so we’re very excited to work with them as we continue to grow.”

Aaron Silverman, president, founder and owner of SCB Distributors said, “Storm King’s strong brand in the comic market is more than ready for expansion, and we at SCB are excited to enlarge the cultural impact of Storm King’s stunningly drawn, varied and innovative titles by selling them, for the first time, into the book trade.”

Periodical format comics will continue to be offered via Diamond. For instance, Storm King is currently offering John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction—PAUSE, written by Matthew K. Manning and illustrated by Conor Boyle, with the first of six issues shipping on February 26, and issue #2 due on March 26. On May 20, one of Storm King’s biggest release ever comes out: John Carpenter Presents George A. Romero’s THE AMUSEMENT PARK, a comics version of a planned collaboration between the two horror titans.
