It’s not a secret you have to be in Section 31 to know: here at Comics Beat, we are supernova-size fans of Star Trek: Prodigy. And currently, all 40 episodes of Prodigy season 1 and season 2 currently available to watch on Netflix.
So when The Beat got the opportunity to speak with the Star Trek Franchise’s official science advisor, Dr. Erin Macdonald, about Prodigy season 2, you can image that we beamed in faster than Jankom Pog when he discovered you could get as many hot dogs as you wanted from the replicator.
Dr. Erin Macdonald on Star Trek: Prodigy season 2
As devoted Trekkies will already know, Prodigy season 2 takes the former crew of the USS Protostar and places them in the thick of Starfleet. Recruited to the USS Voyager-A, the young cadets are now under the watchful tutelage of the one-and-only Vice Admiral Janeway.
But could any commanding officer be watchful enough to stop Dal R’El, Gwyn, Rok-Tahk, Jankom, Zero and Murf from getting into trouble? Prodigy season 2 not only demonstrates this is an impossible task, it also adds time travel to the mix. This leads to an on-screen guest starring spot for Dr. Erin in season 2 episode 4, “Temporal Mechanics 101.”
You can bet your last strip of Latinum we asked about the unforgettable addition of the “Temporal Mechanics 101” instructional video to the Star Trek time travel canon! We also asked about what it looks like to serve as a science advisor for Star Trek on an episode-to-episode basis. And naturally, we had to find out what Dr. Erin would order from the food replicator (and here’s a hint: the connection between the Franchise’s miracleworkers and Scotland is alive and well).
