Imagine if Star Trek: Strange New Worlds teamed up with a totally different universe! After years of living in a crossover wasteland (remember Star Trek/Green Lantern?), we don’t have to dream anymore because a brand-new Paramount+ ad has brought to life a side-splitting mashup that combines the adventures of the Starship Enterprise with the wacky world of SpongeBob SquarePants.
The ad is part of a new promotion from Paramount+, titled “Find Your Mountaint on Paramount+.” In it, we see the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise—now hilariously rebranded as the Patrick Starship Enterprise—making first contact with our favorite underwater residents of Bikini Bottom: Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence), Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown), and, of course, SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny), all of whom are brought to life in 3D to hang out with the live-action crew.Â
You can catch the Paramount+ ad below.
The ad is a delightful blend of iconic elements from both franchises. It gives the iconic Starship a comical twist as it transforms into a giant version of Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke), with Cowboy Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) at the helm. He’s joined by familiar faces from Strange New Worlds like Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Spock (Ethan Peck), who navigate through a whimsical starfield, complete with the vibrant underwater flowers from the SpongeBob cartoon.
The video features Pike humorously using a shell phone to kick off some “nautical nonsense,” while Uhura flips a few iconic Krabby Patties. In the ad’s climax, SpongeBob SquarePants beams aboard the ship. Spock comically refers to him as “SpongeRobert,” before we learn it’s all been a dream. To which, Spock quips that it must be their “imagination” and mimicks the popular SpongeBob SquarePants “Imaganation” meme with the Vulcan salute.
Right now, you can dive into both Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and SpongeBob SquarePants, streaming exclusively on Paramount+.Â
